Harry Van Tosh OBITUARY

Harry Van Tosh, 95, formerly of Reading, died on Dec. 5, 2012, in Columbus, Ohio.

Harry was born on May 10, 1917, in Newark, New Jersey.

He loved golf and football, and excelled as the center and a captain of the South Side High School football team in Newark.

He went on to play football at Albright College, where he was a member of the undefeated 1937 team, with whom he later was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

Following graduation from college, Harry served as a chemist for Birdsboro Steel during World War II. After the war, Harry went to work at Jaslow’s Army and Navy Store in Reading, where he took over as owner in 1955, and where he stayed until his retirement in 1993 at the age of 75.

He is preceded in death by Mildred M. (Brown) Van Tosh, his wife of 62 years, as well as by his daughter, Judith Van Tosh.

He is survived by daughters, Louise (Albert) Siegel and Barbara Van Tosh; by a granddaughter, Leslie (Robert) McCarthy; and by three great-grandchildren: Henry, Holden and Charlotte Mc-Carthy, all of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by a brother, Samuel (Connie) Van Tosh, of Boca Raton, Florida.

Funeral services will be held graveside on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at Kesher Zion Cemetery, 1051 Philadelphia Avenue, Shillington, with Rabbi Minna Bromberg presiding.
