Man charged in Rosamond standoff gets prison

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who pleaded no contest to two felony counts in connection to a standoff at a home in Rosamond was sentenced to prison Thursday.

Joseph Nelson, 24, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, according to court records. He pleaded no contest to gun possession by a felon and obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

Deputies in March were called to the 3300 block of 15th Street West to a report of a restraining order violation.

They tried to contact the suspect, identified as Nelson, according to sheriff’s officials. Nelson barricaded himself inside a room and refused to come out, officials said.

Negotiations ensued, and Nelson surrendered and was taken into custody.
