N’Golo Kante Returns to French National Team as Desch Unveils Euro Squad
17.05.2024 06:17World Cup-winning midfielder N’Golo Kante is set to make surprising comeback to international football after being included in the French squad for Euro 2024, announced by manager Didier Deschamps.
Kante, who last represented France in June 2022, departed Chelsea last summer to join Saudi Al Ittihad.
Deschamps praised Kante’s return to full fitness, highlighting his experience and stating that the French team will benefit immensely from his presence.
The squad also features emerging talents like Warren Zaire-Emery and Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, alongside seasoned players such as Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Olivier Giroud.
Ferland Mendy, who plays for Real Madrid, will make a comeback to the national team after a significant gap since September 2022.
The French squad comprises a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters, with Mbappe leading the attacking line with 44 goals under his belt this season.
Despite injury concerns with Aurelien Tchouameni, Mike Maignan, and Kingsley Coman, they have been included in the squad, demonstrating France’s depth in talent.
France, aiming for their third European Championship title, will kick off their Euro campaign against Austria on June 17, followed by matches against the Netherlands and Poland in the group stage.
