'FBI: International' Introduces Colin Donnell's Agent Lang and Lays the Groundwork for Forrester's Disappearance

FBI: International has been hit by hackers, and nothing will ever be the same. The Fly Team barely had a second to wonder where their boss, Forrester (Luke Kleintank), was before an NSA agent burst into their headquarters in Tuesday's penultimate Season 3 episode ("Gift") and started yelling about a massive data leak. Someone had broken into one of the most secure homes in the world and murdered a millionaire for access to his highly lucrative tech company. 

What does Colin Donnell have to do with it?

Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) was soon introduced to Special Agent Brian Lang, played by Chicago Med alum Colin Donnell, who was there specifically to handle this case. He appears to be dealing with some PTSD, but it's not entirely clear yet what was happening in his violent flashbacks.

The team quickly learned that Forrester's mother—a double agent in hiding—was involved somehow, and Forrester had been directly sent a message about how to track her down. While no one had direct confirmation that that's where Forrester was, everyone assumed that's where he had gone. 

What happens to Forrester? Is he missing or dead?

When the billionaire's killer was caught, he offered to exchange the location of Forrester and Forrester's mother for his own immunity, leaving Agent Lang in a bit of a pickle. Amanda (Christina Wolfe) got the NSA agent to clue her in to where Forrester's mother was being held, and the team asked Lang if he would help them track down their missing boss. He hesitated, and the episode ended right there with a "to be continued."

However, thanks to the promo for the season finale, we know that Lang agrees to help and takes charge of the operation, though it may require some team members to go a little rogue.

The problem is that we already know Forrester is leaving the show, and that Luke Kleintank's final episode aired May 7. We know this search is all in vain, so the question is whether he ends up dead or in hiding alongside his mother. If he remains alive and not in hiding, it just feels so unlikely that he wouldn't say his goodbyes to his team.

Forrester's mother Angela Cassidy, also known as Vanessa Kincaid, appeared in three episodes of Season 1, played by Elizabeth Mitchell. She was revealed to be a double agent for the U.S. against Russia, and asked the Forrester not look for her in order to keep himself safe. Seems like he should have continued to follow her advice!

Hopefully all will be explained in the season finale, which airs next Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
