SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 1 in 3 households face food insecurity in our region, but one local organization wants to make sure there’s always food on people’s plates.

Rachel’s Table will be holding its ‘Outrun Hunger’ 5k race this Sunday in Springfield to help nourish our community.

Contributions from the race will go directly towards Rachel’s Table services and programming
that helps facilitate the distribution of 760,000 pounds of food donated and delivered annually to those in need.

Executive Director of Rachel’s Table Jodi Falk, told 22News, “We have a food rescue, we purchase, we glean in the farms, and we help people even grow their food. All of these programs and all of the food we purchase are supported by this race. The more people who can sponsor this race, come to the race, or donate, will help us out throughout the whole year.”

‘Outrun Hunger’ begins at 9 a.m. at Forest Park and also includes a 1-mile ‘fun’ walk. Registration is still open and if you cannot attend in person, there is a virtual option.
