Solo travel, US State Department's Reconsider Travel Warning

I'm a female solo traveler considering 11 days in July. (4 nights Negril, 7 at the Jamaica Inn) Anyone been recently who had any negative experiences that support the traveler warning? Thank you.

No, but then i follow a few simple rules: 1) Stay at an all inclusive resort. 2) Go out at night only in a group. 3) Carry little or no money and leave what I do take to the island locked in the hotel safe. 4) Leave all possible valuables at home. 5) Do not over drink.

The only thing to reconsider is switch 4 at Jamaica inn 7 in Negril!! Where are you staying? Or 5/6

More to do solo in negril with ease

Jamaica inn is full chill easy vibes beautiful property!

Travel warvings are always & increse of gun gang scam violence in communities out of tourist areas doesn’t compare across Jamaica to Boston crime is higher

Don’t go alone on the dark

Two great locations for fun excursions! It will be hot hot so prepare

From Ochi do green grotto caves & the blue hole

Save a falls trip for negril to YSFALLS

If you need a driver contact Julian https://www.regaltropix.com/

Lots of easy fun in Negril definitely book a tiki cruise

I’d do sunrise on the river & a lunch on the island

PEACE!

Thanks for all the great tips. I’ll be staying at Skylark in Negril.

We go to Negril every November. We stay at Treehouse which is a few doors down from Skylark. We walk to dinner if it's close and take a route taxi to the cliffs no issues. And never heard of anyone at our hotel having any problems.

Hi,

As a solo female you will be constantly approched . Just beware, do not follow or go with anyone, leave your bling at home, never walk alone in the dark... follow simple common sense that you would anywhere and you will be fine.

Definitely take the shuttle to Rockhouse a few times to explore the cliffs

Skylark is pretty

Even tho it’s next door don’t go to Vickitini late night of a bonfire on the beach that’s cool but Treehouse is nice nearby spot. During the day just walk and check stuff out.

Taxi to Travlers for a dinner on the deck

You’ll hear what’s happening when there

PEACE!

Resorts are fine.

We did have some issues when filling up our car with gas - some strangers hassled us,

One of our party who used to live in Jamaica knew how to move them along.

Other than that safe place to go.

Mini you not supposed to fill up your own car with gas there are attendants hence the strangers 😂

"We did have some issues when filling up our car with gas - some strangers hassled us"

You're not allowed to fill your own car with gas, an attendant must do it. Therefore, unless you want a snack from inside there's no reason to get out of the car.

"Hassled" as in tried to sell you something or beg money? They pinned you for tourists....and you don't need to live there to know how to "move them along"....just some street smarts.
