The Kala Revelator Night Owl tenor electro is due to arrive in stock in the UK and launch in this country at the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain in Cheltenham at the end of July. The full retail price has been set at £434. It’s likely once the final cost is known it’ll be less (I’m predicting mine selling at £399).

The Revelator was developed by UK luthier Pete Howlett, who created a fabulously resonant design that seems to have a bit of magic in it. ‘Where does all that sound come from?!’ was a common remark when people played them. Having passed the design on to Kala, last year saw the launch of their US made models. The Night Owl however is made in Kala’s facility in the Far East, and as such comes in at a far lower price.
There are two variants, one made with a solid acacia top and the other tenor with a solid mango top. The Revelator has always been in great demand, and rightly so, but the price of these ones makes them much more accessible. They’re over £1,000 less than a US made version and so are bound to be popular.
A limited number are entering the UK over the summer and I have secured as many of these as I can. But even so, I don’t expect them to last long! I don’t take pre-orders as I’ve not tried this model and while the signs are good, I won’t take any money until I have handled them, tested them and made sure they’re as good as I expect they will be!
