Nicolas Cage is the latest star getting tangled in the Marvel web as he suits up to play Spider-Man!

The actor, 60, will star as an older version of the iconic superhero in the upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video live-action series Noir, adapted from the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. According to a release, Cage plays an “aging and down on his luck private investigator” in 1930s New York who must confront his past as “the city’s one and only superhero.”

Announced at Amazon’s upfront presentation to advertisers on Tuesday, May 14, Noir will be directed by Emmy Award winner Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on Fleabag and Killing Eve. The show’s executive producers Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher) also worked closely with the team from the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to develop the series.

Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM, said in a statement acquired by PEOPLE that the new iteration of Spider-Man will expand the Marvel universe, which is “a uniquely special opportunity” that the studio is “honored” to bring to viewers.

“The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way,” he added.

President of Sony Pictures Television Studios Katherine Pope echoed the excitement of Cage’s casting.

“No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” Pope said. “We couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
