Randy
Randy isn’t an alleged victim of Kevin Spacey’s; he’s actually his brother. But his childhood memories do shed light on Spacey’s upbringing. Randy recalls growing up in Canoga Park, California with Kevin, describing their father as “angry” and “hateful.” Their father displayed Nazi flags and memorabilia in the house and would beat Randy with a riding crop, the brother recalls. Even worse, his father sodomized Randy at age 13, with the sexual abuse continuing for years.
Their father never hit or abused Kevin, Randy insists, but he thinks Kevin saw acting as “a way from him to escape where he came from.” He theorizes that Kevin must still have “psychological trauma” from “the strange family life we had.”
Can they be part of another trial?
Hollywood is so full of predators! it’s disgusting.
Being branded a rapist or sexual deviant is no small thing, there needs to be proof before someones life is ruined by that accusation, this documentary only gives testimony but no proof.
Except that’s the thing, though – what kind of proof could they give? Spacey was very careful and deliberate with a lot of his actions – even in the moments where there was some level of sexual contact, the evidence always seemed to stay on him, and never on his victims. And he could, and would, obviously clean himself up very quickly.
.
That’s something people really need to remember when it comes to sexual assault cases. A lot of the time, there won’t be visible proof, depending on the kind of assault. People like Spacey are very, VERY good at ensuring that there’s little to no evidence of these kinds of crimes left behind, specifically because they know that very lack of evidence will make it much harder for the victims to prove anything as a result.
.
Even without concrete proof, however, the fact that SO MANY men had very similar stories, as well as the fact that their accounts were corroborated and backed up by others who were witness to this behavior or were told of it? That’s pretty damning. The chances that they’re all lying and making things up are pretty freaking slim at best.
.
I’d also note that Spacey did not outright deny that something happened with Rapp when he was responding to the allegations Rapp had made. He just tried to downplay the seriousness of them. Which is pretty telling in and of itself.
The problem is it also cuts the other way, people can use the fact it’s hard to prove to jump on the bandwagon for their own personal gain. For example here in the UK Rolf Harris was accused and convicted and while he may very well be a sexual predator one of his accusers after the trial was proven to have conspired with someone else to make up accusations. It only came to light as they were stupid. It’s just so difficult to know what is true without evidence, is the first accusation false and others are jumping on the bandwagon, is the initial accusation true but some or all are jumping on the bandwagon or are the all telling the truth. Especially with celebs where there is both an increased potential monetary gain and potentially an increased career benefit for them
Sexual predators are everywhere. Where there are people, there are predators. You only know about the Hollywood ones because you recognize their names. Predator John Doe in the oil industry doesn’t get any press. Bob Jones, millionaire predator farmer, no news. Jane Doe, predator modeling agent…who?
I know. There’s a former game show host on trial right now for hush money and he’s already a convicted rapist.
Didn’t Meryl Streep say in the movie “Doubt” that a dog that bites-is a dog that bites?
Kevin Spacey is apparently in dire need of psychological counseling.
What a sleezeball. Never liked him and always thought his acting abilities were overstated. BTW I’m gay. Doesn’t mean we all support such a dirtbag.
I kept wondering why lawsuits against Kevin Spacey were being dismissed, as in Anthony Rapp’s case, or being found not guilty, as the London trial verdict was found to be. That’s why I watched this documentary. Some people always counter that people could be making up these stories as though that’s going to benefit them in some way. The only thing that I feel is a benefit to them is that they’re speaking their own truths and it’s possible they’ll be reviled in some way because of it. I believe these guys. If ALL of them are lying then they’re all better actors than Kevin Spacey is.
It’s a shame, but even these trials are reinforcing Kevin Spacey’s “I can get away with anything” ideas. I think Kevin is enjoying playing this role to the hilt, and getting people to believe him. There are those that say “People believe what they want to believe.” In this case I am saying, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”
We should be reminded that it’s very difficult to get women to report, especially in the workplace. But for these men, many of whom are newer in that work environment than Mr. Spacey. It is possibly/likely career ending to speak out against someone of Mr Spacy’s position. Even after the highly publicized trials of the last 2+ years. Good luck to them in all their future endeavors, don’t let the actions of one destroy your beautiful possibilities.
