LEARN MORE STUDENT CLUBS | AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

It's a tradition at the LFSF that each year, our students participate in the international congress organized by the MATh.en.JEANS association. The aim of this congress is to develop partnerships between mathematicians and schools, putting young people in a research situation and giving students and their parents a different image of mathematics than that of a selective school discipline or a strict and finished scientific field.

This year marked the 35th occurrence of the MATh.en.JEANS congress, and our students took part in the North American edition of the event in Burbank. There, they had the opportunity to work on fascinating yet complex mathematical problems.

LFSF Math teacher, Nicolas LEGATELOIS recalls the event:

" Throughout the year, about thirty LFSF students from Gr4 to Gr12 worked in groups of 2 to 3 on a mathematics problem submitted by a partner researcher of the “Math En Jeans” association. On Wednesday lunchtimes, every other week, they worked on their subject in workshops supervised by Mrs KLISS and myself.

The culmination of all this work was the MEJ congress (North America). This year, it took place at LILA (Lycee International of Los Angeles in Burbank) and brought together 8 French high schools for a total of around 150 students.

For the occasion, 22 students from the LFSF made the trip accompanied by Mrs WAGNER and myself M. LEGATELOIS. Throughout the weekend, they presented the results of their research in a 10-15 min presentation to sometimes more than a hundred people.

We are particularly proud of the quality of the work they presented. Note that this is not a competition, the important thing being to have fun doing mathematics as a team, with the intellectual satisfaction of solving part or all of a complex problem.

The workshops will be offered again at the start of the school year to students who wish to take part from Gr4 to 12."

We are immensely proud of all our students for their participation in this event, and we hope they will continue to participate and have fun with this event year after year!
