Michael Hussey Hopes for MS Dhoni's Continued Cricket Career Amid Retirement Speculations

Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has expressed his hope that MS Dhoni will continue his cricket career beyond this year, despite ongoing retirement speculations. Hussey shared his thoughts during a visit to the Super Kings Academy in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, on Friday.

Hussey's comments come at a time when the cricketing world is eagerly awaiting an official statement from Dhoni regarding his future plans. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman has been tight-lipped about his retirement, leaving fans and cricket enthusiasts on edge.

"I hope he keeps playing on next year and maybe another year and another year after that," Hussey said. "Is he retiring? I have not heard about his retirement. He keeps it very close to himself. He has not announced anything yet."

Dhoni's future in cricket has been a topic of speculation, especially after he handed over the captaincy of CSK to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the start of the 2024 season. Despite stepping down as captain, Dhoni has continued to play a crucial role in the team, showcasing his impressive batting form.

Hussey praised Dhoni's current form, noting that he has been in good touch throughout the season. "He is still batting so well. He does prepare well - he gets into the camp very early and hits a lot of balls. He has been in good touch all season really," Hussey remarked.

However, Dhoni has been managing a knee injury, which required surgery last year. This has led to a strategic approach in managing his workload, with Dhoni often coming in to bat towards the end of innings. Despite these challenges, Dhoni has managed to score 136 runs in ten innings this season at a strike rate of 226.66.

The uncertainty surrounding Dhoni's retirement has added to the anticipation of CSK's upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday. Hussey emphasized the team's focus on securing a victory to ensure their place in the playoffs.

"We play RCB in our next league game. Obviously, we have to try and beat RCB first and if we do that, we will go into the Playoffs," Hussey stated.
