WWE Hall Of Famer Criticises Modern Wrestling Trope As “Pointless”

WWE Hall Of Famer Criticises Modern Wrestling Trope As

Pro wrestling fans have long debated the quality of modern wrestling compared to the WWE’s “Attitude Era” of the late ’90s to early ’00s or the “Golden Era” of the early ’80s to the early ’90s. This ongoing discourse has also attracted the attention of veteran wrestlers, many of whom have expressed reservations about the current state of the sport.

In a recent instalment of his “Everybody’s Got A Pod” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase articulated his disapproval of modern wrestling and outlined the reasons behind his stance.

DiBiase began by asserting that contemporary wrestling appears more akin to a tumbling exhibition than the revered sport it once was.

You watch it now and it looks like a tumbling match. You know what I’m saying?

He emphasised the excessive use of no-selling high spots, which, in his view, has significantly diminished their impact.

You take a great big beautiful bump over the top rope and you hit the ground and you bounce up to your feet like nothing happened. Well, so what, it was pointless?

DiBiase remarked, underscoring the devaluation of such manoeuvres in the present era.

Furthermore, the wrestling legend drew a comparison between modern wrestling and the evolution of filmmaking. DiBiase highlighted his preference for older movies such as “The Alamo,” attributing their superiority to the deliberate pacing of the narrative. By juxtaposing the evolution of wrestling with that of cinema, DiBiase conveyed his dissatisfaction with the current direction of the sport, suggesting a departure from the qualities he holds in high regard.

What Did Ted DiBiase Say About Jake Roberts’ Critique Of Bret Hart And Shawn Michaels As WWE Champions?

Ted DiBiase was on the fence when discussing Jake Roberts’ criticisms of both Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels’ runs as WWE Champions. DiBiase thought that Hart and Michaels did a good job as champions but also he agreed with Roberts’ philosophies on wrestling as they both came up through the business at the same time together.

In other news, D-Von Dudley recalled his reaction to being a part of WWE 2K24.
