Team news update: Brighton v United

Friday 17 May 2024 15:00

Manchester United have welcomed Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial back into training.

All three were spotted in our footage from Carrington, released on Friday, as the Reds prepare for our final assignment of the 2023/24 Premier League at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday (16:00 BST kick-off).

Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were also present, after coming off the bench in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United, and it was pleasing to see young Dan Gore back involved, after injury disrupted his loan spell at Port Vale.

Who can you spot back in training, during our latest first-team video from Carrington...?

Bruno Fernandes played in an advanced role in midweek and, despite appearing to be struggling a little when replaced late on, should be fine for the weekend, following his return from a two-game lay-off.

"Bruno didn't miss so much and he's fit," manager Erik ten Hag told club media. "I would say that is one of my least concerns, if he can keep going. He's fresh and he's in very good form but the others you mentioned, it's important [to get game time]. They missed some games. Rashford, since Coventry, but, of course, Licha Martinez missed, I would say, almost the whole season. So every minute that he can get, we have to give him."

Rasmus Hojlund came on to show his qualities again with a well-taken strike against the Magpies, and will be in contention to start, while Amad is another who enhanced his claims on Wednesday with a goal and assist.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw hope to be back for the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City, although the latter's chances appear slimmer, while Mason Mount has also been sidelined. Tyrell Malacia has missed the entire campaign.

BRIGHTON'S TEAM NEWS

Roberto De Zerbi has reported that skipper Lewis Dunk will miss the game after sustaining an injury against Chelsea in midweek. The England international will be a big miss for the Seagulls, who are also without Kaoru Mitoma, Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner and Jan Paul van Hecke.

"Lewis Dunk is not available," said De Zerbi. "I don't think it's a big problem, which is good news for him and us. But he won't play on Sunday. I don't know the level of his injury but it is a knee issue."

Tariq Lamptey will be assessed after featuring against Chelsea on Wednesday.

"We will have to see Tariq Lamptey's situation because, after a long time out, he played 70 minutes at Newcastle and a long time against Chelsea," added the Albion boss.

United need to better Newcastle United's result at Brentford in order to qualify for European football next season.

Despite our victory over the Magpies last time out, Eddie Howe's men remain in seventh position in the table on goal difference.

If the Reds can outperform Newcastle, then we'll be assured of a spot in the UEFA Conference League, before next weekend's opportunity to beat City in the cup final and, instead, clinch a Europa League place.
