Yes all broaches are tapered, without the tapered length they would not broach evenly and the tapering does vary. Minimum to maximum broaching out sizes are quoted per broach. -

Yep i use it on cases but i recently tried it to polish up a pin pallet fork, it does leave fine scratches visible under magnification where as polinum polished those out. -
It was already mentioned in many mainspring threads here 🙂: There is an optimum length/thickness that gives the maximum run time. The mainspring will occupy half of the inside barrel space then. Longer or shorter (same thickness of course) will need more than or less than half barrel space: less run time! Frank

Hi All Now that I have a staking set, I want to purchase some smoothing broaches specifically for barrel arbour holes in plates and mainspring barrels. I mainly work on Seiko movement and the average measurements are around 1mm plate hole to 2mm barrel hole. And are all broaches tapered ?? I was thinking of this set from Cousins? https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/0070-to-300mm-german1?code=B36688 Appreciate your advice and comments Regards CJ

Thinking about zodiac you can go to cousins and download the PDF of the parts lists. As it seems to cross reference to so many zodiac watches I'm just going to give you a link and you can pick out all the ones you think are relevant. https://www.cousinsuk.com/document/search?SearchString=Zodiac
