With seven seasons, the outstanding TV series Young Sheldon is sadly about to end. Based on one of the main characters of The Big Bang Theory, this sitcom follows Sheldon as a boy living with his loving family in Texas. The show's finale is airing on May 16th, and even actor Jim Parson, who plays Sheldon as an adult, will have a brief appearance to say goodbye to the show.

As nostalgic as many people might be about Young Sheldon's ending, there are still plenty of family comedy series with the same feel-good vibe. Nothing could truly replace Young Sheldon, but from Modern Family to Atypical, people will enjoy these very wholesome and heartwarming shows that will fill the space that The Big Bang Theory spin-off is leaving in the audience's hearts.

10 The Big Bang Theory Follows an Older Sheldon

IMDb Score:

8.1

Since Young Sheldon is a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, the latter sitcom is the natural progression to the former. While many viewers might already be familiar with the four nerds in apartment 4A, younger generations might have started watching Young Sheldon. They might be missing out on another hilarious sitcom revolving around the adorable genius.

Much like in Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory follows the hilarious Sheldon Cooper as he evolves socially, romantically, and academically. In fact, the show constantly includes characters from the spin-off, such as Sheldon's twin sister, Missy, his mom, his Meemaw, and his older brother, Georgie. Fans of Young Sheldon truly need to watch The Big Bang Theory to get all the references and jokes from both shows.

8 Gilmore Girls Is an Outstanding Mother-Daughter Sitcom

Lorelai and Rory sitting in a sleigh in "The Bracebridge Dinner" in Gilmore Girls.

IMDb Score:

8.2

One of the best TV series of the 2000s, Gilmore Girls is a charming mother-daughter story. The show starts when Lorelai Gilmore needs to ask for money from her wealthy yet stubborn parents to send her only daughter to a private school. Soon, the family will get closer, even if they don't always see eye to eye.

Gilmore Girls has an excellent sense of humor that makes it a little more edgy and interesting than other family sitcoms. With eccentric and hilarious character portrayals, realistic family dynamics, and plenty of drama and romance, Gilmore Girls is perfect for people who are looking for something similar to Young Sheldon but also with more complex character development.

7 Malcolm in the Middle Has a More Down-to-Earth Approach to the Genius Character

Malcolm in the Middle late-series cast photo featuring Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, et al.

IMDb Score:

8.2

Malcolm in the Middle is basically Young Sheldon if the latter had been created in the '90s. Much like Sheldon, Malcolm possesses above-average intelligence and receives special education. While Malcolm isn't as uptight as Sheldon, he still has to deal with his family shenanigans and life in a small-minded little town.

Malcolm in the Middle is the perfect portrayal of growing up in a large middle-class family during the '90s. One of the best sitcoms of this decade, it's surprisingly relevant even nowadays, because this show was very much ahead of its time. Malcolm in the Middle has very funny and iconic scenes, but it also reflects with great humor on society's issues and family struggles.

Freaks and Geeks' Dungeons & Dragons Episode Gave RPGs Their Best Spotlight
Freaks and Geeks' final episode showed the joy and camaraderie of tabletop RPGs before actor John Francis Daley helmed D&D: Honor Among Thieves.

Freaks and Geeks is an underrated series from the 90s. Full of a cast that would become legendary with actors like Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen, and James Franco, the show, unfortunately, only lasted one season. However, it has gathered a loyal cult following during the past two decades.

Despite its lack of success during its time, Freaks and Geeks is a hilarious yet relatable TV show about growing up. It revolves around siblings Lindsay and Sam Weir and their respective high school groups. While Lindsay is hanging out with the school freaks, trying to find her place in the high school hierarchy, Sam is part of the geeks, which makes his survival a little difficult. The show has a unique and dark sense of humor but also heartwarming scenes that give the characters a lot of depth.

A still from Full House with the whole family hanging out

IMDb Score:

After the death of his wife, Danny needs to learn how to be a competent father figure for three young girls. However, he receives help from his best friend and his brother-in-law.

None of the men in the series know exactly what they're doing, especially when it comes to female subjects. However, they try their best, and that's why they gained the love of the audience. 4 One Day at a Time Is an Amazing Show About a Family Facing Difficult Circumstances

Elena's family gives her a group hug in One Day at a Time

IMDb Score:

8.1

A Netflix reboot of a '70s sitcom with the same title, One Day at a Time, follows the Alvarez family. The grandparents of the family, Lydia and Berto, went to live in the United States when they were young. Now, their daughter and her children are looking for their place in this society at the same time as they are trying to maintain their Latin roots.

One Day at a Time is one of the most heartwarming and funny sitcoms of recent years. The show discusses themes like depression, racism, and the LGBTQ+ community with great empathy and wholesome humor. Unfortunately, despite its great success, Netflix canceled the series after a couple of seasons, but subscribers can still get plenty of content from the Alvarez family.
