Charlie Hunnam's first time at fashion’s biggest night was definitely a memorable one.

In addition to the Met Gala fixtures attending this year’s red carpet, there were a few first-timers on the guest list, including the Sons of Anarchy star.

The 44-year-old made an impressionable mark with his suave style. Celebrity stylist Samantha McMillen dressed up the heartthrob in a midnight blue Brioni tuxedo with sleek lapels and a matching silk collared shirt.

“I'm feeling good, keeping it classy, keeping it simple. It’s my first Met Gala. I didn't want to go too far. Do you think I went far enough?” Hunnam said while chatting with Entertainment Tonight on the May 6 carpet.

What made his look stand out was a multilayered necklace adorned with diamonds and natural pearls by jewelry designer Neil Lane. The chain was complemented by an art deco brooch channeling “The Garden of Time” dress code and “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme.

Hunnam admitted that he almost left his bling at home, but a special someone convinced him to wear it out.

“I almost didn’t wear my jewels and then my lady was like ‘Are you crazy, break out the jewels,' " he said, referring to his longtime girlfriend, Morgana McNelis, who Hunnam’s been dating for more than a decade. McNelis is a jewelry designer herself, so it made sense for her to encourage her man to turn up in his bling.

Hunnam also made fans swoon with his golden blonde locks, which he wore in a slicked-back hairstyle that made his beard oh so sexy.

Long hair is not a new look for Hunnam, who once rocked a brunette man bun that he grew out during the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually used to channel his role as Lin in Shantaram, the AppleTV+ drama series. However, he did have to forgo his facial hair for the part.

"The bigger sacrifice for me was shaving my beard because this is my protection and I like looking at myself in the mirror more with the beard," Hunnam told PEOPLE in 2022, adding that he made a "specific choice" to portray Lin that way.

But that left him to his own devices when it came to styling his man bun. Of his inspiration he said: "I look at Japanese culture, which I'm a big fan of, and I think those dudes, through the way they shape their hair and style their hair, is about the coolest look on the planet." So long story short, he wasn't "at all mad" about his cool pony.
