Ted Season 2 Update Shared By Seth MacFarlane & Showrunners

Summary

  • Ted season 2 is confirmed at Peacock.
  • The show's expensive nature at $10M an episode and long production time explains the delayed announcement of its renewal.
  • The comedy prequel became a streaming hit on Peacock, which helped with its renewal.

Ted season 2 has been confirmed at Peacock, months after the comedy's strong debut. Arriving on January 11, the prequel unfolds in 1993 after the opening sequence of the first film, and it follows the early life of the sentient bear. Ted lives with John Bennett and his family in Massachusetts, which includes John's father, Matty, his mother, Susan, and his cousin Blaire, who attends a nearby college. Franchise creator Seth MacFarlane returns to voice, with the Ted cast featuring Max Burkholder, Alanna Ubach, Giorgia Whigham, and Scott Grimes.

Deadline now confirms that Ted season 2 is happening at Peacock while explaining why the decision took months. The comedy’s hybrid of live-action and CGI makes it expensive to produce, as much as $10 million an episode, per some estimates, and it also takes a long time before it is ready to release. But considering that it was a significantly popular show for the streamer, Peacock was engaged in renewal discussions.

Ted is Peacock’s most-watched original series to date. It's also the #1 Original Streaming Comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months in the Nielsen streaming rankings.

What Makes Ted Season 2 So Exciting?

Season 2 Will Likely Continue With John's Teenage Life With Ted.

The prequel offered exactly the kind of comedy MacFarlane has built his brand around, but it also used its absurd and nostalgic premise to get great performances out of the cast and to tell a genuine family story.

Although the television adaptation concluded its first installment with Ted and John in a good place, not to mention John's dysfunctional family finally getting along, there are avenues for season 2 to explore. Showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh have mentioned, in particular, that the series could continue following John's life as a teenager and even continue to track him as a young adult in his twenties.

But more than just its humor, which allowed Ted to gain attention on social media for some of its more absurd scenes, the Peacock Original was also surprisingly heartfelt and blunt. It gave a lot of dimension to John's mom, Susan (Ubach), showcasing a seemingly simple housewife who appeared overly devoted to her family. Likewise, Blaire (Whigham), John's cousin, might have emerged as the breakout character.
