Episode 1

"First Date"

Donald Glover as John and Maya Erskine as Jane laughing on a bench in Mr. & Mrs. Smith

"You Belong To Me" by Patsy Cline feat. The Jordanaires – The first song featured in Mr. & Mrs. Smith can be heard around the 4:30 mark of the first episode. The song starts to play after the surprise twist deaths of Alexander Skarsgård and Eiza Gonzalez's characters and carries into the character introductions of John and Jane Smith (Donald Glover, Maya Erskine) before they have their intake screenings with Hihi. The theme of the song is fitting since John and Jane essentially give their lives to the other person through the arranged marriage.

"Easy Lovers" by Piero Piccioni – This song faintly plays in the background around the 20-minute mark as John and Jane start their first mission in a cafe. The newlyweds essentially go on their first date and learn more about each other while they stake out their first target. Despite only being the second song in the hour-long episode, it's also the last. It captures the mood of the intimate moment between these two as if speaking to how they are trying to appear to the world around them.

Episode 2

"Second Date"

Donald Glover as John and Maya Erskine as Jane in Mr. & Mrs. Smith tv series

"Pearls" by Alton Ellis – This classic love song from Jamaican singer-songwriter Alton Ellis arrives around the 7-minute mark in "Second Date." Maya returns from getting bagels and having an impromptu conversation with Hot Neighbor (Paul Dano) who asks questions about John and Jane's professions. At this point, John and Jane are still getting used to living together despite hardly knowing each other at all. The song is another example of romance bleeding into their fake domestic world as if influencing them together.

"Sandstorm" by Darude – This now-iconic EDM song appears around the 29-minute mark in Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 2. After double-dosing their target Eric Shane (John Turturro) with truth serum, they take the intoxicated man back to their house to try and sober him up. When Eric inadvertently dies, John and Jane are forced to dispose of their first dead target. It is the perfect surreal and bombastic song to replicate his wild drug trip.

"Hallucinations" by Roy Budd – This mesmerizing track plays at the end of Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 2 as John and Jane have sex for the first time. Before the song plays into the end credits, John and Jane receive a message from Hihi informing them that they had failed their mission and only have two fails remaining. It is a song that connects not only to the truth serum plot of the episode but also adds a blissful feeling to John and Jane giving into their passion.

Episode 3

"First Vacation"

Donald Glover as John Smith in Mr. & Mrs. Smith

"Muse" by Francesco De Leo – This song plays at the beginning of Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 3 "First Vacation" as John and Jane go over their next assignment at a luxurious ski resort. John installs a secret camera through a hole in the hotel wall adjacent to their target so that he and Jane can observe and report, as instructed by Hihi. It is a peaceful and loving song that echoes the "honeymoon phase" of John and Jane's relationship at the beginning of the episode.

"Girl of My Dreams" by Cornell Campbell – This love song plays at the end of "First Vacation" after John and Jane nearly survive their second mission at the ski resort. John and Jane's relationship has become much more intimate and compatible by the end of episode 3, which is reinforced by Campbell's song. It becomes clear that they are not just engaging in a work fling but have fallen in love with each other.

Episode 4

"Double Date"

Wagner Moura as John Smith and Parker Posey as Jane Smith having dinner in Mr & Mrs Smith episode 4

"Future Lover" by Thee Sacred Souls – Another love song makes up the Mr. & Mrs. Smith soundtrack, this time around the 9-minute mark in episode 4, "Double Date." John and Jane prepare to host another John and Jane couple, played by Wagner Moura and Parker Posey, for dinner at their home.

"Zoom" by The Commodores – This song plays around the 10-minute mark just after "Future Lover" as John and Jane invite the other John and Jane into their home. The other John and Jane seem impressed by their beautiful surroundings. The song serves as a laidback mood-setting song for the get-together the two couples have.

"How Much I Feel" by Ambrosia – This song plays around the 14-minute mark as the Johns and Janes sit down for dinner. The two couples are laughing and having a seemingly great time as Glover's John and Erskine's Jane learn more about the Hihi agency and contemplate leveling up to super high-risk status.

"Step by Step" by Eddie Cahcon – This song plays around the 18-minute mark as the Glover's John and Erskine's Jane learn some of the harsh truths of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith program from the other John and Jane couple. They begin to discover that they may not be able to get out of their marriage easily if they ever came to it. It is another easy-going bit of dinner table music played perfectly against the moment of tension seeping into the evening.

"Ride Around Shining" by Clipse feat. Ab-Liva – This classic hip-hop song plays as Glover's John and Posey's Jane arm wrestle in the living room. Moura's John even asks what song is playing in the scene, thinking it's Eminem. Glover's John corrects him before telling a story about being at an Eminem concert as a kid. It shows the party getting a little more wild with the two couples letting loose while also showing the hilarious ignorance of Moura's John when it comes to music.

"Numb" by Men I Trust – This song from indie group Men I Trust plays at the 24:30 mark faintly in the background as Moura's John gives Glover's John advice about controlling his breath. It is a calming and gentle song to highlight the techniques the two Johns are practicing with each other.

"El Costo de la Vida" by Juan Luis Guerra – This energetic song plays around the 28-minute mark as Moura's John and Posey's Jane drive the main John and Jane to their first super high-risk mission. It takes the mood out of the chill hangout atmosphere of the dinner party and adds a frantic and fast-paced element. The song highlights the overwhelming feeling of the main John and Jane now being faced with a more serious evening than they had planned.

Episode 5

"Do You Want Kids?"

John (Donald Glover), Jane (Maya Erskine) and Toby (Ron Perlman) looking in awe in Mr. & _Mrs. Smith

"Il Cielo In Una Stanza" by Mina – This song plays at the beginning of Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 5, "Do You Want Kids?" as John and Jane drive their latest target (Ron Perlman) in a luxurious sports car. The song is fitting since the episode takes place in Italy and the song is by Italian singer Mina. It adds to the globe-trotting nature of the show that helps to solidify this as a true entry into the spy genre.

"Blossoming Branches" by Complessi Gisteri – This song plays as John, Jane, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith guest star Ron Perlman's character, Toby, sit down to have dinner at the Smith's new vacation home in Italy around the 23-minute mark. The music keeps the Italian theme going, highlighting John's assertion that he could live in a place like this and planning for a future with Jane.

"Tornerai" by Trio Lescano o Quartetto Funaro – This Italian song plays around the 26-minute mark just before Toby and John get into an argument about giving Toby a cigarette.

"Baby Don't You Know" by Nite Lite – This song plays at the end of the episode as Jane is asked by Hihi whether she would like to replace her John with somebody else. There is a sadness to the song at first before kicking into a more upbeat and funky vibe that is a funny juxtaposition to the serious twist that comes in the closing moments.

Episode 6

"Couples Therapy (Naked & Afraid)"

Sarah Paulson as the therapist, sitting and talking to people offscreen in Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 6

"Whoopty" by CJ – This hip-hop song plays at the 5:30 mark in Mr. & Mrs. Smith Episode 6, "Couples Therapy (Naked & Afraid)". John is on an undercover mission with a target playing cards as Jane scopes out the scene with a sniper nearby. It fits with the fun attitude of the game with John unwinding and fitting in with the group.

"Ain't Gon Let Up" by DG Yola – Another hip-hop song plays around the 7:20 mark as John continues talking and earning the trust of his target. There is a sense of John getting to embrace a real part of his personality that he doesn't often show around Jane. The chance to hang out with some other men makes it seem like he is relaxing despite being on a mission.

"Love Ballad" by L.T.O – This classic soul song plays around the 9:20 mark as John talks to the group about women and marriage. The change in music, focusing on the subject of love, reflects the way John is opening up to the other men about his relationship with Jane and his marriage as if he is forgetting that she is listening in. Despite the song title, it is not an overly loving description of her by John.

"It's All About Me" by Mya feat. Sisqo – This song plays around the 10:30 mark just as Jane takes over and ends the mission dangerously, taking out the room of targets. John was talking to the group about the iconic music video of this song in the scene. It foreshadows the moment Jane decides to carry things out on her own, which as the the song title hints at, is an act that John finds very selfish.

"I Feel Like Smashing My Face In A Clear Glass Window" by Yoko Ono – This song plays at the end of the episode as John and Jane set their couples therapist's (Sarah Paulson) house on fire and run away. The song is about avoiding some impulse tendencies by doing something else destructive which John and Jane temporarily echo, finding happiness in their relationship again by focusing on how much they dislike their therapist.

Episode 7

"Infidelity"

Maya Erskine as Jane Smith shooting from a shotgun in Mr & Mrs Smith Show

"Daddy Rollin Stone" by Derek Martin – This song plays around the 14-minute mark in Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode 7, "Infidelity". John and Bev start a physical altercation after John asks her where Jane is. The song plays throughout the fight scene. It is a fun song to score the chaotic and comedic energy of the fight while also speaking to the episode's theme of infidelity.

"Minmanle?" by Jess Sah Bi, Peter One – This soft and contemplative song plays around the 29:30 minute mark as John and Jane take a taxi home after failing to catch Bev. It is a slower and even mournful song that highlights the bad place John and Jane's relationship is in while also foreshadowing the trouble that comes with their third failed mission in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

"Husbands And Wives" by Roger Miller – This song plays at the end of the episode as Jane gets a new laptop delivered to her after destroying her old one in a fight with John. John tells her that he wants out of their arrangement. As the title suggests, it is about a broken marriage which is clearly an allusion to John and Jane's relationship in this moment. Interestingly, it is a song that doesn't highlight who is right and who is wrong but rather shows the pride that can damage a relationship forever.

Episode 8

"A Breakup"

Donald Glover as John Smith with a bloody shirt with Maya Erskine as Jane Smith in Mr & Mrs Smith Show

"Short And Sweet" by Brittany Howard – This song plays at the start of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 finale when Jane is instructed by Hihi to take out John. As the song title suggests, it is an impactful moment that is offered to Jane with such an insignificant text. It is a reminder that this was meant to be a simple professional relationship between two trained killers but Jane knows it is much more than that now.

"Tukuntazo" by Tokischa x Haraca Kiko x El Cherry Scom – This high-energy song plays after Jane tries to kill John in a revolving door as John chases Jane through the streets of New York at the 12-minute mark. It sets off the propulsive action in the episode with the epic foot chase ensuing after John escapes the trap.

"Happy Meal II" by The Cardigans – John plays this song as he and Jane have their final battle in their beautiful home around the 30-minute mark. The houes gets heavily damaged as a result. The laid-back track is starkly contrasted by the violent action onscreen.

"Dream Baby Dream" by Suicide – This song plays as John and Jane fight in their library and a guest room of their house around the 33-minute mark. They injure each other but they both survive. It is another song to play against the violence of the moment. However, there are elements of mournfulness in the song that suggests the sadness in these two turning on each other as well as a longing to suggest there is still love between them.

"Remember the Rain" by Kadhja Bonet – This song plays as John administers the truth serum to Jane and himself at the 36:30 mark. This is the last shot he has to make good with Jane and save their marriage. The song is one about looking back and remembering good time in the past, something John and Jane begin to do under the influence of the drug.

"Stone Cold" by Dess Dior, Mariah The Scientist – This song plays as both John and Jane reveal personal truths to each other while under the truth serum around the 42-minute mark. John explains why he was kicked out of the Marines and Jane expands on the "antisocial" tendencies that got her rejected from the CIA.

"I Just Can't Lose Your Love" by The Whatnauts – This song plays during the truth serum scene around the 44-minute mark as Jane asks John if she still wants to be with him even if she is a sociopath. The song marks the moment of the couple coming to a realization that they still love each other and that they don't want to give up on what they have.

"Statue" by Bonnie Banane – This song plays as Wagner Moura's John and Parker Posey's Jane arrive at their home around the 47:30 mark. Given that the audience is already familiar with these two characters, it is a fun way to bring them back into the story with the song matching their fun and unpredictable style with a level of violence under the surface. It's the final song that plays before the end of Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1.
