to provide appropriate solutions to business problems to be interested in technology for the business benefits it might produce to be practical to meet budgets and deadlines to communicate with business people For IT professionals to make a living out of IT, someone must be prepared to pay us for our expertise. This prompts another definition: An ICT professional is someone who can use ICT to provide a practical solution to an organisation's problems. This requires two sets of skills : The technical body of knowledge that an IT professional needs may be quite varied, depending on the type of IT solution he or she specialises in providing, (HARD SKILLS). The common core of knowledge that all IT professionals need includes personal communication skills, an understanding of business, a knowledge of management techniques, etc. (SOFT SKILLS). ICT is changing so rapidly that it is impossible to produce a comprehensive list of all the technical skills an ICT professional could have. Now, you are required to read this week's article which is appropriately entitled: Aspects of Professionalism, Ethics, and Lifelong Learning for Australian ICT Professionals by Bill Davey and Arthur Tatnall, who are ICT and business lecturers based at RMIT and Victoria University in Melbourne. Hopefully, this reading will help you understand the importance placed on being an ICT professional and aid you in writing your journal entry for this week. This first ACS Education PE subject addresses the non-technical competencies that all professionals should have. It is clear that the more generic business skills you acquire outside of specific skill sets and knowledge relevant to the business that your employer or clients are in, the more professional you will be perceived. Now you will need to read "Why Should Professionals Keep Journals?" a document explaining the importance of developing a professional reflective journal. Once you have done that you will be required to post 100 words in your journal environment detailing responses to questions such as: · A description of what you learned this week that will enhance your employment opportunities · What you learned that reinforced something you already knew · Something you learned that was new to you & why you think it important to your professional career development.
