A look at the matchups for Mira Costa and Redondo in Saturday's CIF Southern Section boys volleyball finals at Cerritos College

CIF-SS BOYS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

SATURDAY

DIVISION 2

No. 1 Redondo (29-7) vs. No. 3 Santa Margarita (18-3), 3 p.m.

Where: Cerritos College

Outlook: The Sea Hawks are the top seed in the division. They swept their first two playoff matches, against Pacifica Christian and Dos Pueblos, and defeated Beckman in four sets in the semifinals. On the other side, third-seeded Santa Margarita swept its three playoff matches, against Royal, Long Beach Wilson and Servite. Both teams finished second in their respective league. Luke Goldmann led Redondo with 21 kills in the win over Beckman, with Cash Essert and Bobby Bennett recording 13 kills and nine, respectively. Junior setter Shane Friedman had 47 assists. Redondo is still in search of its first CIF-SS championship. This is its first finals appearance since 2006.

DIVISION 1

No. 2 Mira Costa (35-3) vs. No. 1 Loyola (30-1), 6:30 p.m.

Where: Cerritos College

Outlook: Friends and rivals. The Mustangs and Cubs meet again, this time in the CIF-SS final. Both teams went 3-0 in their respective pool to advance. Mira Costa swept Tesoro and then defeated Edison and Corona del Mar in four sets. Loyola went five in the opener against Huntington Beach and followed that with a sweep of Mater Dei and a four-set win over Newport Harbor. The teams met in March with Loyola winning in four sets with Sean Kelly leading the way with 30 kills. The Cubs have won the last six meetings. The last Mira Costa win against Loyola came in the 2021 SoCal Regional final.
