  • The Stanford Legal Design Lab conducts research, designs interventions, and develops technologies and policies to promote equal access to justice.
  • The lab provides a collaborative environment for research and training on a broad range of social phenomena that unfold in geographic space.
  • Government Services: Technology can be leveraged to transform the public sector, improving government service delivery while increasing fairness, transparency, and accountability.
  • Across the world there is extensive evidence of criminal, insurgent, and other non-state governance structures successfully controlling populations and territories in both competition and collaboration with formal states.
  • The Western Governance and Policy research project at Stanford focuses on studying and analyzing the unique governance and policy challenges faced by western states and regions in the United States.
  • The Hoover Institution conducts two bi-annual polls that measure the political attitudes of voters, their reactions to their leader’s policy decisions, and their beliefs about the direction of America.
  • TT2 seeks to break down barriers between the government, industry, and academia, and inspire partnerships that reinforce US advantages critical to protecting liberal Democratic values, fostering prosperity, and preserving peace worldwide.
  • The project examines how China’s political institutions help or hinder continued reform and the challenges they face ahead.
  • The goal of the US-India Program at Hoover is to generate, identify, and advance policy-relevant scholarship and connections that will deepen the relationship between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy.
  • A joint project between academics and practitioners to crowdsource and identify short, scalable interventions to reduce anti-democratic attitudes, support for partisan violence, and/or partisan animosity among Americans.
  • This initiative conducts research and analysis on the foundations of the market system, private property rights, and the rule of law in relation to a free society.
  • The Quality Improvement in Government initiative designs, pilots, and rigorously tests the effect of quality improvement initiatives in government.
  • This project advocates for greater transparency in government use of surveillance technology overall, and in particular for greater public access to court records showing the nature and extent of law enforcement intrusion into our digital lives.
  • Brings together specialists with interdisciplinary expertise to analyze how technology affects national security and law and how governments can use that technology to defend themselves, consistent with constitutional values and the rule of law
  • The Stanford-MIT Healthy Elections Project was developed to ensure that the 2020 election can proceed with integrity, safety, and equal access.
  • Our research explores how data science, machine learning, and new program design can help revitalize government and where rigorous evaluation and evidence are most needed.
  • The Governance Project seeks to better conceptualize and measure governance. Initially, it will seek to understand how it functions in two societies ­­– the Peoples Republic of China and the United States – and then expand to additional countries.
  • This initiative examines the causes for democratic fragility and conflict and adopts an interdisciplinary approach to finding and testing new potential solutions to these crucial issues.

  • The Program on Identity, Democracy, and Justice (IDJ) at CDDRL advances innovative research on the multifaceted dimensions of identity and their role in democratic development, struggles for recognition, social justice, and inclusion.
  • Program on Capitalism and Democracy
    The Program on Capitalism and Democracy seeks to address the crisis in democratic capitalism, marked by public disaffection with the system and perceived market and political failures.
  • Program on Arab Reform and Democracy
    Examines the different social and political dynamics within Arab countries and the evolution of their political systems, focusing on the prospects, conditions and possible pathways for Democratic reform in the region.
  • California Policy Research Initiative
    The California Policy Research Initiative (CAPRI) at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) is intended to help state and local officials access policy-relevant research from Stanford.
  • The Stanford Center for Law and History (SCLH) brings together faculty, postdocs, and students from across Stanford University to examine the multifaceted interrelationships between law and history.
