Ireland international Shane Duffy has been charged with driving while unfit through drink following a two-vehicle crash, police have confirmed.

BBC report that the 32-year-old was arrested in Hethersett, near Norwich, late on Monday and is due to appear before magistrates in Norwich in July.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said: "Police were called to Queen's Road, Hethersett, 21:05, on Monday May 6, following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

"Emergency services attended the scene and a man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

"Nobody was injured."

The spokesperson said 60-times capped Duffy, of Norwich Common, Wymondham, was "charged with driving whilst unfit through drink, having provided an evidential breath sample of 102mcg".

He is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on July 2.

A Norwich City spokesman said: "Norwich City Football Club is aware of an incident involving one of its first team players.

"The club is in the process of considering the matter internally in accordance with its own disciplinary procedure."

The Derryman has made 35 starts since joining the Canaries at the start of the season and is due to be involved in Sunday’s Championship play-off semi-final against Leeds United at Carrow Road.
