Google reveals cute Minecraft minigame to celebrate 15th anniversary

Minecraft's 15th anniversary is culminating in a two-week-long event created by Mojang, but it appears that other companies are also joining the fun. On May 16, 2024, Google announced on its official X account that players who search the name of Mojang's sandbox title will get a fun little surprise to further the celebrations while they cruise through the search engine.

In the short minigame, players can "break" their Google search results screen to reveal a small landscape complete with randomized blocks. Players can mine these blocks by clicking on them. They can even get a wooden pickaxe to help them on their mining excursion across their Google search result page.

What to know about the Minecraft minigame released by Google

According to Google, fans can play the Minecraft minigame on May 16, 2024, though it's unclear as to when it will be removed. Whatever the case, players who open Google and enter Minecraft into the search field will notice a small grass block appear at the bottom of their screen that they can click to start the minigame. From here, Steve's hand will appear in a first-person camera view.

Players can click their Google search result page to "break" the page and reveal a small assortment of blocks, usually comprised of grass, dirt, flowers, trees, and occasionally wool. Fans can click on these blocks, and Steve will break them by hand. If he breaks a wood block, his hand will be replaced by a wooden pickaxe. A small amount of XP orbs will also momentarily pop up.

As Minecraft players break the blocks shown in the small minigame scene, a small counter will eventually appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen that keeps a running count of the blocks they've broken.

Once fans have broken all of the blocks in the small minigame area, they can tap the X button on the bottom of the Google search results page, causing a creeper to detonate and reset the minigame.

All things considered, players won't find a massive amount of replayability or depth when it comes to this Google-crafted minigame, but it's a fun way to pass the time while browsing the search engine. It certainly can't compare to how the original game operates, but it's a nice acknowledgment from the world's foremost search engine about the title's 15th anniversary.

In addition to the 15 Days of Minecraft event currently ongoing in-game and through Mojang's social media channels, this search engine minigame helps fans get a little more into the spirit of the anniversary. It also gives those who aren't familiar with the title a very small sample size to experience it.
