The Windies maverick said he wanted to earn some experience and make every appearance count coming into the tournament and also reflected on the second chance life and the game of cricket have offered him after the horrendous accident he suffered nearly a decade ago.

Lucknow Super Giants registered an 18-run triumph over the Mumbai Indians to finish their season on a winning note at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday in the ongoing season of the IPL.

LSG posted a total of 214 runs for the loss of 6 wickets thanks to a whirlwind 75-run knock off just 29 balls by Nicholas Pooran to propel his side to the big total, which they managed to defend as they restricted MI to 196/6.

Pooran was awarded the Player of the Match award for his exploits on the day and the Windies maverick said he wanted to earn some experience and make every appearance count.

“Personally, I just had to do my job which is to find a way in the situation and finish strong. Coming into the season I knew what my game would be. I have been inconsistent as well if I were to be fair to myself, so I wanted to get some experience and make it count,” the Windies batter said.

LSG narrowly missed out on qualification to playoff, and when question if batting up the order through the season would have had an impact on the ultimate result, Pooran said that he woudl bat at any position in order to help his side and was happy playing to his strengths.

“I’ve batted from Nos. 3 to 7 but if I had to choose, I like the powerplay as well. I can’t be selfish and choose. I can bat at any position and that’s my strength. I’m just happy that I can do that,”the 28-year-old added.

He also reflected on the second chance life and the game of cricket have offered him after the horrendous accident he suffered nearly a decade ago.

“I’m just blessed, really grateful to have a second chance to play this game. Eight years ago when I had that accident, I thought I wanted to enjoy every game and every chance I got,” he said in a heartfelt manner.

He thanked all the supporters and teams who have backed him and said he felt delighted that he is in a position to go out and set the stage alight.

“Cricket and sport is really difficult, it takes time. I’m just happy teams are backing me and giving me a chance to play. All the fans of the world who support me as well, I’m just happy I can go out there and entertain,” the big-hitter said.

He signed off by touching up on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA and expressed that he wants to give the people of the Caribbean something special to cherish.

“The World Cup is there now, it’s back home and we’re all looking forward to playing together and doing something great for the people of the Caribbean,” he concluded.
