The most depressing part is that we had to revert to lads who have not been good enough the last 10 years and who are getting older. We finished with an old team

Getting out of the group is the only thing that matters, we definitely need to improve in all the factors you've mentioned, no question about it. But if we lost tonight and finished fourth or lower we're out. Guaranteeing 3rd at least means there's not as much tension next weekend.

I thought myself it was an exciting game to watch, think Eoin Cody did well considering he’s been out for a few weeks and has done little training. Billy Ryan always plays better coming off the bench. Murphy had some great saves that kept us in it at crucial stages of the match and his puck outs were targeted better. Donnelly becoming a leader as well as a vital player. Will need Mullen to beat Wexford. Best thing about today and the win is that we won’t see a certain poster all week.

You forgot to mention Fogerty there 🙄 just out of interest who would you have put in?

Agree with that and great to be guaranteed to qualify now, but still huge pressure to get to a Leinster Final as there should be. We're in for a humdinger next Sunday.

We were disjointed for large parts of the game today in no short part due to Dublins intensity. We ran into countless cul-de-sacs on the wings and there was some aimless handpassing and stick passes at times.

At the same rate, Parnell Park can be a tough place to go when the Dubs are on form. With so many lads quiet or poor tonight (Kenny, Carey, Phelan, Wall, S. Murphy, I'll even throw Cody in there going by his own standards and even though he scored 1.03) we still had the fight to eek out the win. TJ had an off day on the scoring (again, by his own standards), but still has top class work rate.

Donnelly was class. Mossy had a strong game too. Few great scores from Blanchfield. Billy Ryan worked his socks off when he came on, it's why he's on the team. For all the stick he gets on here from a few individuals, Forgarty was effective when he came in.

Lots to work on for next week, hopefully we get a big crowd in Nowlan Park for the Slaneysiders

After last week the result was all that mattered today. Murphy was midfield because Tommy Walsh can only play corner back and Carey obviously wasn't fit (which is an ongoing problem now) so he got moved around to suit. Didn't work. Deegan didn't look fit either.

Disappointed with how often they were able to come from deep on their own so something was going wrong in our midfield and half forward line with tracking or because our half forward line were starting so deep anyway it gave them an easy start.

Lyng obviously has no confidence in our panel depth when he's turned to Fogarty the last two weeks when we're chasing a game. Why are we carrying Blanchfield and Drennan in the subs at all. Just go with Shine and Dunne and get them exposed to this level as you clearly don't trust the other two.

Other than that our inability to score goals is a huge problem. Everything we do seems to be between the 45 and 65 but rarely around the 21.

All in all, 1-28 scored, job done in Parnell Park. Move on.

Not right to say who we brought in weren't good enough for the last 10 years. Yes these lads won't contribute as much to the modern game in 2024 and if we have better on the line they should be blooded but the lads have been top class players throughout those years you mentioned.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭Comerman

Well said 👍 and he still has no alternatives. The game wasn't beautiful tonight and some players were below par but in the end we won and shut up the boyo singing "come on you boys in blue" ffs

Presuming Wexford get the job done V Carlow tomorrow (no guarantee), next Sunday is set up for an unbelievable belter of a Leinster semi final in Nowlan Park v Wexicans.

The place will be absolutely heaving.

There is nothing I love better than a few pre-match pints, sun splitting the skies and Wexford v Kilkenny going at it hammer and thongs in a packed house.

Yes next Sunday should be a big occasion in the park, hopefully the Kilkenny public get out in numbers to support the team, get the win and give us momentum going into a Leinster Final. Today was always going to be a battle and thankfully we've come out the right side.

We should have 8 points now, but no harm that we're not shooting the lights out yet. July is the time to peak and there's plenty to suggest there's far more to come from this Kilkenny team once everyone is fit. Great incentive now to get the Wexford monkey off our backs and drive on from there.

A great win against the head after the 2nd goal went in, Cody Deegan and Carey getting 70 minutes back after layoffs, don't see the negatives. Could well see a repeat pairing in the Leinster final, Dublin have some lovely players and Donohoe won't lack for motivation next week after leaving Galway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 neverbet

Why the negativity? Unbeaten in 4 games , performances not perfect, but effort never in question. Some of our best are constantly pilloried on this forum. Only team in the championship guaranteed to progress to the All Ireland series. I wonder if those castigating ever stood under a high ball. Doubt it.

On a positive note, we got 22 scores from play and conceded 14 from play. Some of the Dublin frees were very soft but equally they could have got a couple more. Clear thrown balls for the first Dublin goal, Carey fouled prior to the second goal. However, Dublin had 4 goal chances to our 2.

Hopefully, Cody, Carey and Deegan will be fitter the next day. . If Mullen is fit, either Phelan or Wall will give way. I would play Wall. His first touch wasn't good today but I would give him the start.

Think that Shane Murphy should be half back with Paddy Deegan in midfield, tough on Carey

In fairness Billy Ryan blatantly overcarried in the build up to your winning goal too, most games few decisions go with and against you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,838 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

I get your other points, but Drennan is 20 years old in fairness, like if we're writing lads off before they turn 21 we may as well put Eddie keher out there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 black and amber rock

Donnelly and Mossy absolutely class won us the game.

Deegan and Billy Ryan done great hard running in the second half when was needed.

Blanchfield and the full back line were solid.

Murphy in the goals had his best game of the season.

Any news whether mullen will be back next weekend?

  • Registered Users Posts: 256 ✭✭therealdonster

You sound crestfallen Village. I know winning with a last minute goal must be hard to take and you can't come on here banging on about a lack of pace or whatever other usual nonsense you go on about but chin up there's always next weekend, maybe we lose then...

There was a clear foul in the run up to Dublins second goal Ocean which Johnny Murphy chose to ignore...don't see you bringing that up though

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,974 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I wasn't just pointing out it's easy to pick out isolated incidents over the course of a game when in reality both teams were probably on the wrong end of a few decisions over the 70 mins.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,620 ✭✭✭me89

He was pucking around with Wally before the match and was moving freely so hopefully he's not far away

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,241 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

I'm not writing him off. I'm saying if Lyng isn't willing to put him on in that situation yesterday, 3 points down, taking off a forward but instead puts on a defensive minded midfielder he obviously doesn't trust the forward subs he has.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭Village87

Sorry, great results against Carlow and Dublin, 2 superpowers. Excellent performance by u20 v Offaly, a morale victory. The 9 years without Liam McCarthy might only be 20 years now

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Maybe Tommy can only play corner back but that doesn’t mean you have to play Murphy in midfield surely? He looked like a fish out of water.

I thought Blanchfield got some great scores and seemed to come up with a score when we really needed one .

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭Charlie69

I think the last couple of games have shown how important Adrian Mullen has become for this team, his scores and leadership qualities have been sorely missed. Hopefully we will have him back for Wexford and the Leinster final if we make it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 109 ✭✭ttowncat

I can't see us beating wexford, hope I'm wrong. They live and breathe for this match and their football running tactics just always do a number on us and leave most of us chasing shadows. I know it was only walsh cup and experimental teams back in january but wex totally outhurled kk with 13 men on the field in the end, in callan! Was it jack oconnor they kept weaving, dragging and working the ball to in the middle of the field for easy plant the feet shots?

Anyway, If we lose to wex and assuming wex beat carlow today, where does that leave us? What has to happen between dublin and galway?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Look I think we all understand your frustrations at the lack of progression of players, especially from the All-Ireland winning under 20 team but the truth is none of them are putting their hands up for places on the team or panel. So if you can’t see the important roles that the likes of Conor Fogarty and Buckley still have to play on this panel then I don’t know what to say to you.

Will there be Tipperary 2013 vibes in the park next Sunday?

They should by hyping this match up and try get a big KK crowd, it would be good for the game and a serious boost for the team.
