Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Mayim Balik, and more have joined Cate Blanchett in the cast of Jim Jarmusch’s new film, Father Mother Sister Brother.

Per Varietythe film recently wrapped production in Paris after previous shoots in Dublin and New Jersey, and will be completed later this year. The film is a triptych that follows three separate stories between parents and their adult children — one in Paris, one in Dublin, and one in the American Northeast.

The film’s description deems Father Mother Sister Brother as a “comedy interwoven with threads of melancholy,” with “character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental.” Jarmusch had hinted that the film will have a musical component, but it’s unknown whether the film will feature original songs or not. In addition to Driver, Waits, and Balik, Vicky Krieps, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat have also joined the cast.

Adam Driver previously teamed up with Jim Jarmusch for the director’s last two films: 2016’s meditative Paterson and 2019’s zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die. Tom Waits, a longtime collaborator of Jarmusch, also appeared in The Dead Don’t Die as well as previous films Down By Law and Coffee & Cigarettes (Waits also composed the music for Jarmusch’s 1991 film Night on Earth).

Jim Jarmusch, meanwhile, has once again teamed up with composer Carter Logan for their project SQÜRL. Their next release, the Dada-inspired “sonic exploration” Music For Man Ray, is out this Friday, May 17th. Their debut album Silver Haze arrived last year; revisit our 2023 interview with Jarmusch and Logan where they discussed their work together and their favorite film scores.
