Alfa Romeo has unveiled two new limited-editions based on its fastest sedan and SUV, with the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio Super Sport marking the Italian car-maker’s first victory in the Mille Miglia.
Highlights of the Super Sport edition include a red carbon-fibre weave throughout the cabin that combines with red embroidered head restraints and red stitching on the seats and around the dash.
Just two colours are available on the Stelvio – Etna Red or a metallic Vulcano Black – while Giulia buyers also get the option of Alfa White.
As standard, each car comes with tele-dial alloy wheels and adaptive Matrix LED headlights.
Less conspicuous tweaks include a four-leaf clover logo placed on a black, rather than white, background.
The Super Sport twins, which both use the 385kW 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6, also come with an Akrapovic sports exhaust that’s normally an option.
From a global production run of 450 cars (275 sedan, 175 SUV), nine Super Sport specials have been allocated to Australia – six Giulia and three Stelvio, priced from $174,200 and $183,200 plus on-road costs respectively.
That puts them a long way in front of the regular QV twins (+$20,500), and also well ahead of last year’s 100th anniversary specials (+$7500-$8000), which quickly sold out.
The SS cars mark Alfa Romeo’s maiden win in the 1928 Mile Miglia, paying tribute to the legendary Alfa 6C 1500 Super Sport Spider Zagato that won the event after 19 hours on the road with opera singer-turned racer Giuseppe Campari behind the wheel.
It’s been tipped the SS will be one of the last special-editions based on both models, with the Stelvio set to be replaced in 2025 and the sedan’s successor primed to land in 2026.
Both replacements will be battery-powered and offer up to 745kW of power.
