Josh Sargent limps off with ankle injury in Norwich City’s first leg draw

Josh Sargent did not finish Sunday’s match for Norwich City but is expected to be available for this week’s second leg at Elland Road.

Sargent started and played 84 minutes at Carrow Road on Sunday in the Canaries’ 0-0 first leg draw of the EFL Championship promotion playoffs with Leeds United. However, the U.S. men’s national team forward limped off the field before the final whistle under his own power.

The 24-year-old was held in check for most of his performance, failing to register a shot on target in the match. Now with the scene shifting to Yorkshire on Thursday, David Wagner expects Sargent to be available as the Canaries aim to reach May 26th’s playoff final at Wembley.

“He was not able to carry on,” Wagner said in a club interview. “He’s had some problems with his ankle, I haven’t spoken with him or the medical staff yet, but he’s a tough guy.

“I’m sure he will be ready for Thursday, which is a very, very big game,” Wagner added.

Sargent has been key for the Canaries this season, leading the club with 16 goals in EFL Championship play. Despite missing three months during the first half of the season, Sargent returned with a bang, netting 13 goals in 2024 alone.

Norwich City will desperately need Sargent’s services if they want to pull a second leg shock at Elland Road, especially knowing Leeds United only lost two out of 23 home league matches this season.
