I definitely feel a little weird about getting this now but I want to have a nice reminder of the good times.

Would be nice if Bethesda would also finish and release the May patch that Arkane Austin was preparing to release for Redfall...

It's still getting branch updates on Steam so you never know. If Sarah Bond wants to prove that she's all about preservation than these two games would be a great start.

Thanks Microsoft, for asking us to wait several months and then on top of this, asking every player outside of the US to pay a premium importing a copy, instead of seeing sense to partner with a company that actually cares about global distribution.

Fingers crossed. It could also just be them updating the game to remove references to the cancelled DLC (if there were any-- not sure if there was an in-game DLC menu / DLC advertisement or something). But I hope you're right.

I mean, Microsoft sucks in their part for managing Tango and dissolving such a talented bunch. But - Tango made a work of art here, that I want to play and own. If you all want to take Microsoft to task on this, there are other ways to hurt them worse: sell your Xbox, cancel your Live/GamePass sub, and don't buy anything from them in the future šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

That depends though. It would require work to patch out the licensed music. While that would require a minor amount of money to do but since MS shuttered Tango would MS have access to people who could do the patch? Would they view Hi-Fi Rush worth patching? I personally would not assume the best case scenario would come to pass for something like this.

They wouldn't have to patch out any music. There already exists a streamer mode without licensed music. All that would be required would be to make that the default and only mode. I can't imagine that would take much manpower or money to do

I watched a streamer play it and the streamer mode music wasn't bad at all. Some of it sounded like really great, imo. Especially for the bosses.
Although a lot of the original songs are designed to resemble the licensed music, generally speaking I find the majority of the streamer mode songs much more fitting for their placement and relevance to the game (the original song in Chapter 9 is a particular standout in how much more fitting it is than the licensed song).

There are a few exceptions to this, where the licensed songs significantly improve the moments where they're featured (Chapter 10, Chapter 11) but generally speaking, I find the Streamer Mode music better for the game.

Please inexplicably include a DRM free exe by accident. Don't want this game to ever be lost if Denuvo goes down.

That still requires a patch to disable that option which requires money and people available to do it. Again, you're right that it's a simple thing that wouldn't take much time but that's still a patch which presumably has to go through cert of some kind. Like you said, it's not much but it's still more than flip a switch and you're golden. For a game like Hi-Fi Rush, that could be enough of a roadblock for MS to not view as being worth it.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying the scenario I'm spelling out will 100% happen. I'm saying there's no reason to believe that it COULDN'T happen and you're better off assuming the worst here.

I've been meaning to buy this since forever, but I've always delayed it. It's really cheap on PS store right now, but given the recent events at Xbox, I'd feel dirty buying it now.
Guide me, Don Lotus. Guide me to the light once again and tell me what should I do.

I always wanted it physical first and foremost because the game left a great impression on me. It's a shame it won't also have the added benefit of supporting the devs that created this wonderful game, but that just makes the game even more important to me. Now I'll just cherish it even more than I would've otherwise.

That said, I do vastly prefer physical over digital, but if that doesn't matter to you, then yea, certainly feel free to buy it at its cheapest

Streamer Mode is alright but Invaders Must Die is such a peak sequence that the whole mode is invalidated

This will literally be a triple-dip for me. Doing my best to single-handedly support the team that made this!

Yes, it sucks to give MS more money after what they did, but it's a small price to pay to have long term access to this game. MS probably made more money in the time it took me to write this post than what this physical release will generate anyway.

I have digital on Series X so this'll be a good way to get it on PS5 as well.

A lot of it is basically Legally Distinct copies of the original songs. The Roquefort streamer mode boss theme is so hilariously similar to the normal version of the song it made my head spin.

It's still not IDEAL, but yeah, the game isn't unplayable without Nine Inch Nails playing over the final boss fight.

It isn't unplayable but the Invaders Must Die part was so hype that I feel sorry for streamers though

Patch notes are up. Nothing about addressing the game's licensed music.

PATCH NOTES
PLAYSTATION 5 AND PC

  • (Track 01) After reducing QA-1MIL to zero health, a collision issue would occur where players would fall out of the geometry. Chai will now properly fall to the ground, instead of into the abyss.
  • (Track 01) Fixed an issue during the latter half of the 2D area whereby the camera would not follow Chai when the elevating lift falls.
  • (Track 02) Corrected a defect whereby if you touched Rekka during her electric charge, your final Rank would not correlate with the Chorus score.
  • Some issues would occur when trying to use Macaron's Gravity Well while Rhythm Parrying an enemy. Well, this is now fixed!
  • (Track 03) Cutscenes previously would not play correctly if a Health Tank was consumed during the fight with the HG-0G. Feel free to block a few more hits with your face because this bug is fixed!
  • Fixed various text issues.
PLAYSTATION 5
  • (Track 01) During the "Dodge Attack" tutorial, there was a discrepancy between what Smidge said and the text. The text will <NOW DISPLAY CORRECTLY>.
ALL PLATFORMS
  • (Track 01) We also QA'd some other issues during the QA-1MIL fight, particularly around transitions between phases.
  • Fixed even more text bugs! They just don't stop!
  • Drink prices adjusted in Vandelay vending machines to reflect local currency conversion.

I hope someone asks John Johanas about music licensing in an interview at some point. Curious if he'd be able to elaborate on whether it would be a major concern.
