Powerful EF3 Tornado Rips Through Maury County, Tennessee

The powerful storm struck during the evening rush hour, tossing vehicles, including a work van, into the grass and reducing homes to rubble.

Jessi Peden, a driver whosedash cameracaptured 2 minutes and 30 seconds of the ordeal, recalled,"The pounding of the car, just like the wind, not even the stuff hitting, just the wind hitting the car, you can just feel it....I'll be honest. I thought I was not going to make it. I thought I was going to die. "Peden and his wife, who was two miles behind him, can be heard praying together over the phone as the storm raged around them.

The tornado left a trail of devastation in its wake, with multiple homes wrecked and widespread flooding reported. The city of Spring Hill's Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works Department, and Emergency Management officials responded to the scene. Homes belonging to several city employees were among the damaged properties.

Mike Moon and his family of 15 took shelter in their basement as the tornado approached. "I told everybody to grab their shoes and get down in the basement,"Moon said. "We covered ourselves up with pillows and some mats. Your adrenaline is flowing, kids are screaming, and all you can do is try to protect your family. "The family survived without a scratch, but their house was completely leveled.

Ryan Whitten's house next door to the Moons had its roof torn off and walls ripped out. The tornado scattered the Whitten family's belongings, including their four dogs. "Could you recall what you have in your house, what's sitting on your coffee table, if you went home and it wasn't there? None of us could," Whitten article lamented.

The storm also wreaked havoc at the Spirit Horse Stables, reducing a barn housing 20 horses to rubble. A mother horse and her newborn foal were injured but are now recovering. Sky, a favorite horse, sustained severe injuries in the tornado.

Spring Hill authorities have launched a multi-departmental effort for recovery, closely coordinating with the Maury County Office of Emergency Management. Mayor Jim Hagaman expressed condolences and assured that city staff and citizens stand ready to support affected families and individuals. Several flooded roads were shut down on Wednesday night to ensure the safety of emergency services and the public.

The EF3 tornado claimed at least one life and caused numerous injuries as it tore through Maury County. Despite the devastation, affected residents expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal. "The Lord kept us safe and saved our lives,"Moon said. As clean-up and assessment operations persist, the community is rallying together to rebuild and recover from thispowerful storm.
