RIO ARRIBA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The deadline to make a request to stay at Airbnb’s Up House in Abiquiu is almost here. Guests have until 12:59 a.m. MT on May 14 to enter to stay at the real-life replica of Carl and Ellie’s home from the 2009 Disney/Pixar film “Up.”

Fun facts about the UP Home:

The home is part of Airbnb’s Icons series, which features “extraordinary experiences” based around icons in music, film, sports, and more. The Up Home features elements from the movie, including family photos, the iconic adventure book, and, of course, 8,000+ balloons. The global home rental service teamed up with Disney to design the structure of the home to match the film, including the exact colors used for the house in the film, according to Airbnb.

The home even has the ability to appear as if it is floating with the help of a large crane. However, guests will remain on the ground at all times during their stay. “Our community’s safety is incredibly important to us, so guests will not be inside the house while it is lifted. All guests will remain 100 ft away from the house while the house is lifted. The house will not exceed the height of 50 ft designated by engineering and crane operators as safe for lifting,” Airbnb spokesperson Haven Thorn told KRQE News 13.

The entire process of building the home took three weeks and more than 100 people. Thorn said the 8,000+ balloons took two weeks to blow up with compressed air.

As for the reason for building the home in Abiquiu, Thorn said, “With its mountainous landscapes, Abiquiu, New Mexico, provides the perfect setting for guests to head out to explore the wilderness and natural surrounding–a nod to the film’s setting and spirit for adventure.”

How to stay at the home

To stay at the UP House, you first have to choose your dates, add your guests, and then answer a question about why you want to go on airbnb.com.

Airbnb will then randomly choose a set of potential guests and review their answers for unique perspectives and connections to the icon. The chosen guests will then receive an invite to book a stay. More details on the rules and selection process can be found here.
