Tim's Obituary

Tim Cox of Falls City, NE, son of Jim and Freda Cox of Crane, MO, was born on November 21, 1939 in Galena, MO and departed this life on May 7, 2024 at the age of 84. Tim attended school in Hurley, MO and graduated in 1957.  Tim and Loretta (Greenway) were united in marriage on December 10, 1960 and to this union had two sons, Kevin Gene Cox and Timothy (Timmy) James Cox, who all preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters-in-law, Lois Scott, Karen Henry, Joyce Bradford and Donna Kimberling and a Brother-in-law Trecil White. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte White of Crane, MO; niece Mitzi Langley and nephew Marty White; Sisters-in-law, Betty Clines, Marilyn Greenway and Barbara Inman; Brother-in-law, Ralph Bradford; one grandchild Jamie (Anderson) Daniels and her husband, Mark; four great grandchildren;  two step grandchildren; one great, great grandchild;  special friend Joyce and a host of relatives and friends.

Starting at a young age, Tim seemed to always be looking for adventure. So much so, that he got his pilot’s license and owned his own plane. He had an appreciation for fast cars and even shared his love for motorcycles with his sons, Kevin and Timmy.  Tim especially enjoyed going to the lake with Loretta and the boys and mentioned many times that some of his best memories were from the years they spent in Colorado as a family.

Spending most of his adult life as a heavy equipment operator, Tim always dreamed of building the perfect golf course.  He spent more than 40 years traveling throughout the United States and overseas, building courses in such places as Kansas City, Georgia, California, Colorado, Indiana, Texas and even Taiwan. Tim was still working heavy equipment well into his 70s and only stopped when his health wouldn’t allow him to do it anymore.

You could say that Tim was an entrepreneur by heart.  If he got an idea for a business, he would rarely sit on it.  He never did anything half-hearted and wasn’t afraid to take an idea and run with it.  In his later years, you could always find him selling produce or swap meet goods, but he was never without an idea for his next venture.

He and Loretta lived in many places over the years, but always considered Southwest Missouri to be home.  After spending most of their time raising the boys in the Galena area and then traveling to build golf courses once the boys had both passed on, they finally settled in the Nixa area in 1990 and lived there for more than 20 years. After Loretta passed, Tim made his way back to Colorado and in an interesting turn of events, met his special friend Joyce who he has enjoyed sharing life with over the last few years.

Tim Cox was known and will be missed by people all over the world and many would call him friend. There are countless words that could be used to reminisce about such a unique individual; Bold, Intelligent, Persistent, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend – yet, the best we can leave you with are the words that he penned himself to describe what he believed would best represent both he and Loretta, “They were both artists in their own way.”
