Rangers player who can 'sort out' Celtic captain Callum McGregor in derby identified

One former Gers star wants someone to do a job on the Hoops skipper

Stuart McCall would like to see Rangers play Dujon Sterling in midfield this weekend to "sort out" Callum McGregor.

As ever in the build-up to an Old Firm derby, especially with one that could be crucial in the title race, there is plenty of talk around potential tactics and what each team should do. The Ibrox side are the ones who really need to make sure they don't lose and Jamie Murphy has already told Philippe Clement the surprise he should spring.

Now, McCall has had his own go at discussing a potential strategy for his old side. We've all seen McGregor dictate and run some of these games in the past and the former Scotland midfielder has heard reports of the 30-year-old getting back to his best after injury.

That is why McCall thinks something needs to be done and he feels Sterling is the one to do a job on the Hoops captain.

He told BBC's Scottish Football Podcast: “If, like people were saying, McGregor was back to his best for Celtic, apparently, and pulling the strings.

"I’d like to see somebody to go and sort him out and, for me, Sterling can do that. He can go and play and sit on somebody who’s going to try to dictate the tempo of the game.

"But normally that’s a Cantwell or Lawrence who’s going to sit on a deeper midfielder.”
