From GOAT to MAGA: Giants' Legend Lawrence Taylor Joining Donald Trump's Team

New York Giants' legend Lawrence Taylor joined a rally in New Jersey Saturday to denounce Democrats and support Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The greatest of all-time is joining the team trying to Make America Great Again.

Former New York Giants' star linebacker Lawrence Taylor - arguably the best defensive player in NFL history - has switched political parties ahead of the 2024 Presidential election. Taylor showed up to a rally in New Jersey Saturday in support of Republican former President Donald Trump.

“I grew up a Democrat and I’ve always been a Democrat," Taylor said, "until I met this man right here. He will not have to worry about anybody in my family ever voting for a Democrat again.”

Taylor was joined on stage in Wildwood, New Jersey by his former Giants teammate, running back Ottis Anderson. In 1984, then-Washington Generals owner Trump tried to lure Taylor away from the Giants to the USFL.

Through the years, Trump's party affiliation has been tricky. He registered as a Republican in 1987 but has changed his stance at least five times. In 2001 he officially switched to Democrat and explained why in a CNN interview in 2004.

"In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat," Trump told Wolf Blitzer. It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans."

In 2022 former NFL star Herschel Walker ran (but lost) for Georgia senator behind Trump's full support. And this year New York Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers has dipped his toe into politics, befriending Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and briefly considering running as his Vice President.

Taylor is a Hall of Famer who won NFL MVP in 1986 and was three times the Defensive Player of the Year.
