Report: Olympic Gold Medalist Has Interest From Multiple NFL Teams

In college he was a two-time national champion. In the Olympics, he won gold. But after a two-year run in WWE, Gable Steveson could be taking his talents to the National Football League.

According to MMA insider Ariel Helwani via ESPN's Marc Raimondi, Stevenson has received interest from "multiple NFL teams" following his recent release from WWE. Per the report, Steveson has also been training in mixed martial arts and even has a year of college wrestling eligibility remaining.

"Gable Steveson, the former heavyweight Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, has interest from multiple NFL teams, a source confirmed with ESPN. Steveson has also been training in MMA at Kill Cliff FC in Florida. He has a year of eligibility left for college wrestling, as well. Steveson, 23, was recently released after spending three years in WWE's developmental program. @arielhelwani was the first to report," Raimondi wrote.

It's not the first time that Steveson has been recruited to play pro football even though he has no college or even noteworthy high school playing experience. Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck tried to recruit him to play defensive tackle during his college days and the Buffalo Bills attempted to bring him on board shortly after his Olympic victory in Tokyo.

Between 2019 and 2022, Steveson won three Big Ten championships and two national championships in the 285-pound weight division. He went on to win the Olympic gold medal for Team USA in the Summer Olympics in the 125-kilogram weight division, upsetting three-time world champion Geno Petriashvili in the process.

WWE got to Steveson first, giving him a high-profile developmental contract. But in several years with the company, he made only a few appearances for the sports-entertainment company.

Will Steveson give the NFL a try next, or does another path lie in store for him?
