Bon Jovi recently experienced an incredible surge on the Billboard charts, as their back catalog became incredibly popular once again thanks to the release of a new docuseries about the band. As millions of Americans continue to buy and stream the hits that made them superstars, their newest single is also gaining ground.
“Legendary” is up on the two charts it appears on in America this week. The track is becoming a proper hit on two of Billboard’s radio rankings, as it slowly climbs higher and higher. As of this frame, the tune has now become the biggest single from the group in well over a decade on at least one tally.
This frame, “Legendary” lifts to No. 20 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, Billboard’s ranking of the tracks that reach the largest audience at radio stations that play “adult” pop. That’s a new peak for the tune on that list, and the band’s best placement in years.
The last time Bon Jovi appeared higher than No. 20 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart was back in 2013. That year, “Because We Can” peaked at No. 17.
Between “Because We Can” and “Legendary,” Bon Jovi only collected one hit on the radio list. Their single “Roller Coaster” spent seven weeks on the tally in 2017. It didn’t get to crack the top 20, though, as it stalled at No. 34.
Just as is the case on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, “Legendary” is also climbing on the Adult Contemporary ranking, which operates with a similar methodology, though it tracks different stations. On that list, the single is up to No. 12, lifting two more spaces.
In the coming weeks, “Legendary” could continue to soar on both charts. It may be headed for the top 10 on the two lists, though it’s closer to hitting that tier on the Adult Contemporary tally than the Adult Pop Airplay roster. If it can reach that space, it will mark Bon Jovi’s fifth top 10 on the Adult Pop Airplay ladder and their seventh on the other.
“Legendary” is Bon Jovi’s only hit on any of Billboard’s radio charts, though they do take up space on a number of other song lists. Some of the group’s earlier, harder tunes can be found on rosters like the Hard Rock Streaming Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts, though that’s par for the course when it comes to the New Jersey outfit.
