A Maryland woman didn’t feel up for leaving the house on a gloomy day to pick up lottery tickets.

But the woman’s mother kept insisting she buy some tickets, something the two often do together, Maryland Lottery officials said in a May 17 news release.

“It was a bad day, and I just didn’t feel like leaving the house,” the Prince George’s County woman told lottery officials. “But my mom kept on me about going, so I finally just went up there.”

The duo headed out to an Exxon in Bowie and bought “a few tickets, including a $1 Pick 5 straight bet ticket for the May 14 evening drawing,” lottery officials said.

After dinner, the daughter checked her tickets on the lottery’s website.

“I saw the numbers my mom gave me straight,” the daughter said.

The woman won $50,000 in the $1 Pick 5 drawing.

“I was excited for her, and she didn’t even want to play the numbers that day,” the woman’s mother told lottery officials. “I bet she’ll listen to me more often.”

The woman told lottery officials she plans to spend her winnings on bills and tuck the rest away in savings.

Her mother, though, told lottery officials she hopes her daughter will use her prize money for a car.

Bowie is about 30-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
