“We had to struggle against the prejudice of the heavy metal thing in Portugal” – Interview with Fernando Ribeiro (Moonspell)

Portuguese metal icons Moonspell, fronted by vocalist Fernando Ribeiro, have released the early years collection “Under The Moonspell”. This must-have boxset, released in April via Alma Mater Records (owned by the outfit’s frontman), features the band’s evilest material to date, the iconic 1994 LP “Under The Monspell”, “Under Satanæ” as well as “Anno Satanæ”, the early demos.

Remastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano (“Under the Moonspell” + “Anno Satanæ”) and Tue Madsen (“Under Satanæ“), with art direction by João Diogo Pereira, the album travels back in time revealing the ultimate map to the infernal early years of Moonspell.

On the occasion of this new release, Chaoszine caught up with Ribeiro to recall the early days in Brandoa, Portugal, the sound of black metal merging with other genres on those first albums, his role as the founder of Alma Mater Records, Moonspell’s future plans, literature (Ribeiro is an accomplished writer) and much more.
