Car rental

A question for UK travellers. I am experienced with dealing with car rentals at MCO. I am looking at a rental through a UK agent all taxes insurances etc covered. I have so far had no real poor service with any major car rental companies on site .

I am considering Alamo, however Dollar/Thrifty are substantially cheaper than the other established companies. I have used these Dollar Thrifty in the past without issue.

However I see a fair amount of comments re; up selling and very long Q's lines of late. Has anyone got any recent e.g. past few months experience of Q's lines up-selling. Thanks in advance

Join their loyalty schemes, skip the queue (and the upselling!)

Not once had the “upsell” issues others report.

I always state I have all the required insurances and the correct size of vehicle, thank you..

We usually go Alamo, booked through uscarhire.com but the last 4/5 trips we’ve had Dollar through them as they were literally hundreds of pounds cheaper than Alamo prices..

I’m happy to take a bit longer to collect for the amount of savings..

Though even that’s never been an issue to be honest..

Thanks Mike-C I was hoping you would reply as I now from past posts you go often. So in a nutshell lines not to bad. As for up-selling I can and always handled them well just grinds on me now, however as you say enjoy the saving. May I ask when you last was there? I will be going into Terminal C. Dollar don't do skip the counter according to the agent I uscarhire, nice if they all offered it

I’ve used who Mike-C recommends in post #2 a few times, they are excellent in my experience, I’d also consider Nigel A’s recommendation in post #6 they are well recommended by many UK travellers on The Dibb

A forward facing (public) provider such as the one mentioned in post#2 is probably the best you’ll get through such third parties, and as far as any main brand hire provider goes just check two things (a) they have a skip the counter type product and (b) the automated toll offering isn’t a gouge.

One of the other ways is the same aforementioned loyalty programs of Hertz Gold Plus status and Enterprise Executive Elite status, which cost about $50/$55 for two years without actually ever renting a vehicle. That combined with certain rate codes will get you a fully inclusive, top tier or near as damn it rental for about sixty percent of the rates you can see.

Anyway, the first paragraph is what’s important to you.

Do Dollar and/or Thrifty let you choose your own car or is that only Alamo?

It was interesting to read post #2. I've never heard of this company and out of curiosity went for a quote for our upcoming stay.

Same car type as booking directly with Alamo will save me $400 on this website.

However when I read the online reviews - someone states that there are hidden charges such as one-way rental fees, etc.

Can anyone please give me more information on uscarehire?
