Between Denis Villeneuve’s electrifying Dune: Part Two and HBO Max’s Dune: Prophecy, Frank Herbert fans are eating well in 2024 — the latter of which has just been previewed in a tantalising teaser trailer.

Set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, this forthcoming prequel series formerly titled The Sisterhood follows sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humanity, and establish the fabled sect the universe would come to know as the Bene Gesserit.

“Assigned to the great houses to help them sift truth from lies, we created a network of influence throughout the imperium. But power comes with a price.

The cast also includes:

  • Jodhi May as Empress Natalya — “a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino.”
  • Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez — “an independent young princess dealing with the pressures of her responsibility as heir to the Golden Lion Throne.”
  • Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela — “a strong-willed Fremen woman who serves the royal family while longing for a home planet she’s never known.”
  • Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen — “a fierce, unpredictable acolyte in training at the Sisterhood School who rarely reveals her emotional core.”
  • Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline — “a zealous acolyte descended from a long line of martyrs, who carries fervent religion to her training at the Sisterhood.”
  • Chloe Lea as Lila — “the youngest acolyte at the Sisterhood School with a deep empathy beyond her years.”
  • Australia’s own Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart — “a charismatic soldier with an enigmatic past, who seeks to gain the Emperor’s trust at the expense of the Sisterhood.”
  • Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino — “a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.”
  • Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia — “a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood who harbours a dangerous secret about her past.”
  • Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides — “a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.”

Josh Heuston, Edward Favis, Tabu, and Jihae, are also set to appear as Emperor Javicco’s illegitimate son Constantine Corrino, scheming political Harrow Harkonnen, Sister Francesca, and Reverand Mother Kasha, respectively

The series has been created by Diane Ademu-John, who also shares showrunning duties with Alison Schapker. Initially, Denis Villeneuve himself had signed on to return to direct the pilot episode with a screenplay by his own Dune scribe Jon Spaihts. The former has since handed the reins over to the Emmy award-winning talent Johan Renck (ChernobylBreaking Bad); Villeneuve and Spaihts are now attached in an executive producer capacity.

While HBO Max has yet to announce a specific release date, Dune: Prophecy has a release window of the US Fall months (September to November 2024) — keep an eye out for it on Binge/Foxtel and check out the teaser trailer above.
