The Morning Report — 5/15/24

youvegotafiend.jpg

Good morning, kids. Now you can add to leftist ideologically-driven incompetence clueless cruelty or cruelty of cluelessness. Here are two shining examples. First we take you to Zimbabwe on the Pacific, formerly known as California:

As Saigon was falling, Janet Nguyen’s uncle – an officer in the South Vietnamese Army – was taken before his village and executed. After the city fell on April 30, 1975, the communists put Nguyen’s father and mother in jail. Their “crime?” They got caught trying to escape the country.

After Saigon fell, Tri Ta’s father spent years in a re-education camp prison. His “crime?” He wrote books critical of communism.

Both Nguyen and Ta eventually made it to California with their families. She became a California state senator and he became a member of the Assembly. The Republicans represent Orange County districts home to the largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam.

Forty-nine years after the Fall of Saigon, April 30 remains a solemn day for Nguyen and Ta as it is for many of 2.3 million Vietnamese-Americans in the U.S. They call it Black April.

“It’s a day that we mourn,” Nguyen said.

Which is why Ta and Nguyen were outraged when leaders of neighboring Los Angeles County declared April 30 “Jane Fonda Day” to honor the celebrity for her environmental activism. The lawmakers immediately began pressuring officials to rescind the recognition.

For those who are not of a certain age, like me, let me give you a bit of a refresher. Jane Fonda goes way beyond being certainly a liberal and even a leftist or hard leftist. She is in fact the dictionary definition of a traitor.

In 1972, while America was at war with North Vietnam and their terrorist force the Vietcong, Fonda travelled to Hanoi to pose on an NVA antiaircraft cannon, shouting her opposition not necessarily to the war but to America's involvement in it. To add insult to incredible injury, she was perhaps within spitting distance of the infamous Hỏa Lò Prison, dubbed "The Hanoi Hilton," where captured American POWs were being tortured and brutalized for years.

I'm no legal eagle nor well-versed in the UCMJ. But what she did should have earned her a date with the hangman. The fact that Fonda was not put to death or at the barest of bare minimums rotting away right now in Leavenworth was a huge mistake. In some ways, what we are experiencing today with the cultural rot that is the gateway drug to the institutional corruption of our government and society at large, if not completely prevented, might well have been mitigated. We'll never know.

And speaking of that rot and corruption, I give you the second of today's shining examples of clueless cruelty. This one is a doozy:

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken performed Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” on the electric guitar on Tuesday night in Kyiv, Ukraine, as part of a solidarity visit to boost morale in the embattled former Soviet republic.

Blinken played rhythm guitar with The 1999 band at the Barman Dictat, a nightspot in the Ukrainian capital.

“I know this is a really, really difficult time,” Blinken said. “You need to know the United States is with you.”

. . . The scene recalled a bizarre event in the aftermath of a radical Islamic terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris, France, in 2015, when then-Secretary of State John Kerry, having missed a local “unity rally,” sought to console Parisians with a serenade by James Taylor, who performed “You’ve Got a Friend.”

As the estimable Joel Pollak notes, "Rockin in the Free World" was not a song in praise of the West. It was written by noted crackpot Canuck Lefty crank Neil Young – who made millions of dollars writing tunes bashing America and the west – just before the Berlin Wall came crashing down and millions enslaved behind it actually tasted freedom for the first time in decades, thanks to the America he and his ilk, including Fonda, made their bones and fortunes from bashing.

But beyond that, the tastelessness of Blinken and his clueless cruelty lies in the fact that while he is desperate to help destroy the state of Israel by aiding and abetting the dark age savages that perpetrated the greatest mass slaughter of Jews since World War 2, he was performing (in every sense of that word) barely four miles down the road from a place called Babi Yar.

Over the course of two days, the 29th and 30th of September 1941, which coincided with the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, the Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators shot 33,771 Jewish men, women and children to death in a gigantic mass grave.

The road from Babi Yar in 1941 goes directly to southern Israel in 2024.

The disgusting and tragic irony of this, one of many, is that Blinken happens to be either the son or stepson of a Holocaust survivor. To not even take the time to travel, even unofficially without the media in tow, to say a prayer at the memorial site, speaks volumes. Perhaps it might have bolstered the flagging support of American Jews for Biden, but then again it might enrage the Democrat base whose blood-thirsty anti-Jewish anti-Israel anti-American vitriol is barely distinguishable from that of Hamas and the rest of the commie-heathen world itself.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has sharpened his rhetoric towards Israel, telling the key U.S. ally to ‘get out of Gaza’ as the Israeli military tightens the noose around Hamas’ terrorist leadership in Rafah.

Blinken prophesied “enduring insurgency” in the long run if the Israeli military conducts a large-scale offensive in Rafah, Hamas’s last remaining stronghold, which has a terrorist fighting force with a strength of about four battalions.

“As we look at Rafah, they may go in and have some initial success, but potentially at an incredibly high cost to civilians,” the U.S. Secretary of State said in a TV interview on Sunday. “And they will be left holding the bag on an enduring insurgency because a lot of armed Hamas will be left, no matter what they do in Rafah, or if they leave and get out of Gaza, as we believe they need to do.”

Leave and get out of Gaza? High cost to "civilians?" What civilians? Unless you are an infant in diapers, anyone above the age of 5 is either an enemy combatant or directly helping the combatants. Meanwhile, just across the Mediterranean, this is happening:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that more than one thousand Hamas terrorists have received medical treatment in hospitals across Turkey. Erdogan refused to admit Hamas was a terrorist group, instead describing it as a “resistance movement.” This greatly dismayed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was meeting with Erdogan in Ankara to defuse tensions between Greece and Turkey. The two leaders were holding a joint press conference when Erdogan revealed Turkey had been treating Hamas fighters. . .

. . . Erdogan loudly insisted that Hamas should not be treated as a “terrorist organization” even after it murdered, raped, burned, decapitated, and kidnapped more than 1,200 Israeli civilians on October 7.

“Hamas is not a terrorist organization. It is a group of mujahideen (holy warriors) defending their lands,” the Turkish leader said, insisting that the Israelis were the real terrorists.

Like other apologists for Hamas savagery, Erdogan said that Israel has no inherent right of self-defense that would justify its military response against the October 7 attack. The Turkish leader has since compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler on several occasions, claiming Israel’s war in Gaza is an act of genocide like the Holocaust.

I'd say that this is serious considering Turkey is a NATO member, but then again so is Germany, France and England which are well on the way to becoming Islamic states perhaps in as little as the next 10 years.

And there's this alarming anecdote, from the same Legal Insurrection article to Turkey's involvement with the wounded terrorists.

The IDF has uncovered Hamas’ plan to set up a terrorist base in Turkey, the UK newspapers Times of London and Telegraph report. With IDF crippling the terror group’s ability to operate in Gaza, Hamas operatives were looking at Turkey as a potential base for plotting terrorist attacks aimed at Israeli officials, servicemen, and civilians, documents recovered by the IDF show.

I guess Qatar is not safe for Hamas. Or the emir's family. That would make Turkey a potential target of Israel, no? And since they are a NATO member . . . do the math.

The reason we no longer have the death penalty for rape anywhere in the US is that the feds love their fellow sex criminals, and the SC overruled all those laws.

I think the reasoning here is that a """more conservative""" bench will reverse the perv-friendly justices of yesteryear, but I wouldn't count on that. Cocktail parties are important, and their entire social circle will be put off their feed by this.

Heck, nothing short of burning a building down would prevent you from getting the standard 5% annual raise or whatever it was. I can only imagine what it's like now.

62 "Is it the right response to the Jew-hating, pro-Hamas mobs on campus?"

No. Making Jews another specifically protected class is not the right way to handle it. The right way to handle it is some combination of expulsion, deportation, and imprisonment of anyone breaking the law. This does not bring us together as a society, it further atomizes things and that will work against Jews in the long run.

73 I was happy to read a story about my state, Ohio, finding and purging 137 illegals (they call them "non-citizens" in the story) from the voter rolls. The story, probably by design, doesn't address how easy it appears to have been for them to be registered in the first place.

States that are purposefully not pursuing this are of course going to be glutted with illegals voting this November. Welcome to Election Steal Boogaloo 2024.

74 When did computers stop being fun? The laptop PC first took a while to install Windows updates. Then it ran like a tortoise at first. When I tried to shut down Firefox so that I could do some cleanup, the laptop froze and was hard to shut down. Now I'm getting "Getting Windows ready -- don't shut off your computer." Running, running, running, but no change.

--

Similar to browsers I suppose. Around when they became tools for the companies (tracking) and not tools for the users enjoyment / convenience / productivity.

Windows no longer allows you to say "No, I don't want that update" when you know an update is breaking computers. It's still going to force you to put that update on your computer and potentially break it.

(Imagine someone in 2001 being given that computer.)

Also probably when no one was allowed to purchase software, only rent it briefly.

A nice core i7 processor, 32 gigs of memory, a fast SSD as the boot drive with the OS installed, and for the updates, it took 1.5 hours of "Getting Windows ready, please do not turn off your machine" before it even rebooted. The drive/data indicator LED was off for most of that, barely blinking at all.

Microsoft has turned into a giant steaming pile of failure. There is no excuse for updates to act like that.

In nationalist Spain, when the nationalists defeated the communists they imprisoned the leadership of the latter. I'm told this was a crime against humanity.

I'm told this is understandable because they had just fought a violent civil war and of course the government would seek "justice" against those that had opposed it.

251 NYT: In the past three days, Russian troops have seized at least nine villages and settlements, and more square miles per day than at almost any other point in the war, save the very beginning.

Ukrainian troops are retreating, and Ukrainian commanders are blaming each other for the defeats. As the sense of panic spreads, especially in Kharkiv, some hard questions loom: How far will this go? Is it just a momentary setback for the underdog Ukrainians? Or a turning point?

This is the consequence of the delays in the aid. We let Russia regroup and now Ukraine is on the back foot now. We never should have taken this long. Congress should be ashamed of themselves.

He made the wrong kind of progress.

The foreign policy establishment only wants - or pursues - a single thing: a "Comprehensive Middle East Peace Plan" that solves all problems in one fell swoop, paid for and backstopped by the United States. Since the 70s, that's been the only strategy. The only exception prior to Trump were the Camp David Accords, which Carter pursued *only* because he was under enormous domestic pressure due to his catastrophic administration. He needed a win, and Egypt gave it to him. But then, it was right back to business as usual.

Trump rejected the foreign policy establishment's failed strategy, and made genuine bilateral progress by brokering the deal between UAE and Israel. Others joined in, but he started with just two. It wasn't "comprehensive" and didn't "solve" all "problems" per the preferences of the American elite (e.g., recognized Palestine, etc.). It was therefore not an achievement, but a disaster.

The two state crap has been uniparty orthodoxy for decades. It is a built in excuse for nothing ever getting done. While Trump was president that water head Kerry was publicly saying the Abraham Accords would fail because the Palestinian terrorists (I might have added the last part) weren't involved and he was meeting with the mullahs in Iran telling them to just wait Trump out and things would go back to normal.

340 I mentioned yesterday (and will repeat) the Biden campaign doesn't worry about the polls because they are self-deluding.

The polls show down ballot Democrats beating Republicans, so they think their policy prescriptions (death to America foreign policy, domestic economic destruction and higher taxes) are popular.

Biden himself is unpopular with key elements of the Democrat base: Women, Black and Hispanic voters, Union workers, and young people (who are hit hardest by the economy).

But ALL of those voters will come home to vote for Biden. Trump's enormous unpopularity will be the deciding issue, along with Abortion, Abortion and Abortion. That is their belief. So, they think the polls will change, and Biden will win.

They could be right, as insane and incredible as it may seem to rational people.

"It would set a dangerous precedent, if you could go on to someone else's land, build anything you want, and then sue that individual for the value of it," Reynolds’ attorney, James DiPasquale, said.

At least they are cutting live main distribution lines to steal the copper yet, or striking occupied houses to get it.

Both are coming. South Africa is our future, and its power infrastructure is crumbling both because they can't keep generation online effectively *and* because roving gangs keep ripping up distribution infrastructure to sell the copper. Dig a trench, cut the line, steal a few yards of it, sell it to the scrapper. Lots of people die doing this - cutting live wires is dangerous - but hey, free money.

The first huge blow to the used car market was "Cash For Clunkers," which was a devastatingly bad program. It's taken numerous hits since, and inflation spares nobody.

I doubt I'll ever own another new car. My only new car - it's a 2017 - is in good shape and has low miles. It is going to last at least another decade, and my old 2006 I have is not as solid but will probably get me at least a decade, too, since it's a second car.

Even if I can afford a new car by then - unlikely - I am not going to want one because of all the surveillance crap. I might buy a 2026 model car in 2029 or 2030, and baby my fleet because it will have to last the rest of my life.

While yes, the picture is the famous part, what else she did on the trip should have earned her a military firing squad.

She was actually GIVEN A TOUR of the Hanoi Hilton, where they tortured and threatened the prisoners to pretend that everything was fine.

One of them passded herd a note with a list of the prisoners there, so she could let their families know she was alive.

She immediately turned around and HANDED THE NOTE TO THE GUARDS, who tortured and beat the one who handed her the note.

She's far worse than a traitor, and I hope with every fiber of my being that she burns in Hell for eternity and then gets reincarnated as one of those worms that lives in feces.

I forget the exact time frame and numbers but say from the end of WWII to the 1990's they were involved in 150,000 refugee placements. It's now up to over a million and a half. They're down in the Darien Gap area assisting people from all over the world (most if not all un-vetted) get to the USA. Some very bad people who would like nothing better then to kill off the Saturday and Sunday people.

Yes, it's a rot of formerly solid institutions with a valid purpose - if they were doing the homework. Now it just seems the allure of being an NGO and receiving money for the largest influx possible is the purpose.

I have extended family members who had to bribe their way out of Germany when they saw the writing on the wall. People truly in need, who would have died if they had remained. I don't think HIAS helping gang members from South and Central America, or from the Middle East, or China is anywhere close to the same scenario.
