King Charles reveals cancer side effect while giving Prince William senior role with Army Air Corps

The King has opened up to another cancer survivor.

Return to Royal duties

King Charles has made a rare comment about his recent cancer treatment, revealing a strange side effect.

The monarch on Monday met British army veteran Aaron Mapplebeck, who underwent chemotherapy last year, during a visit to the Army Aviation Centre in Hampshire in England’s southwest, and the two discussed their treatments.

Mapplebeck was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent nine weeks of intensive chemotherapy.

During the chat in front of an Apache helicopter at the centre, the pair reportedly discussed losing their taste through the treatment process, according to The Sun.

At the event, Charles named Prince William the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps — the former army unit of his brother Prince Harry.

Charles returned to his public duties at the end of April after announcing he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February.

His first appointment was at the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre where he met with patients and specialists on April 30.

According to multiple reports, King Charles spoke to a fellow cancer patient, saying: “It’s always been a bit of shock, isn’t it, when they tell you.”

It is unclear if Charles is still undergoing treatment.

The Daily Mirror associate editor and royal commentator Russell Myers spoke about the visit on Sunrise.

“It was the day we didn’t think we’d see for quite a while — it is great to see King Charles and Queen Camilla out and about today (London time),” Myers said.

“He went to the hospital to meet cancer patients. We saw the personal aspect of it and Charles telling the cancer patients how much of a shock it was when he received his own diagnosis.

“This could be the start of better things to come for Charles.”

The King’s schedule now appears so full he could not find time for a meeting with his younger son Prince Harry, who returned for a whirlwind trip to London last week.

Ahead of Harry’s landing on May 7, a spokesperson confirmed that a reunion between the King and his youngest son would not be happening.

“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program,” the statement read.

The last formal meeting between the father and son was in February after Charles made his cancer news public.

Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and have since lived in Montecito, California in the US.
