Spike in gun violence begins late Friday in Taylor Berry

The weekend's gun violence started around 11:30 p.m. when LMPD officers found a woman with gunshot wounds in the 1400 block of Thornberry Avenue. Her wounds are believed to be non-fatal, according to LMPD spokesperson John Bradley, and she was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital that night.

No suspects have been identified as reported by Bradley Saturday.

In a separate incident Friday night — which is not included in the Courier Journal's weekend gun violence count — three LMPD officers shot a man in the Pleasure Ridge Park area around 11 p.m. after police say he charged at them with a knife. The man, Nicholas A. Pierce, died Sunday of his injuries at University of Louisville Hospital.

LMPD Deputy Chief Steve Healey said officers gave repeated commands for him to drop the knife and "less lethal options" were used first, but had a "very limited effect" on Pierce. LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is investigating the incident and bodycam footage would be released within 10 days of the shooting.

Saturday shootings leave five dead, multiple injured

LMPD officers responded to a reported shooting in the Auburndale neighborhood just past 2:30 a.m. Saturday, where they soon requested assistance from the police department's SWAT team to secure the scene. There, officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound that is believed to be non-life-threatening, according to Bradly.

He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was considered to be in stable condition. No suspects have been identified, and the case remains active.

Around 5 a.m., police responded to The Hot Spot, a local club at 282 Evangeline Ave. in the Southland Park neighborhood, following a report of multiple people shot. When they arrived, LMPD officers discovered one man dead while a man and a woman were suffering from gunshot injuries. Both were transported to University of Louisville Hospital.

A short time later, Bradly said another man who was reportedly shot on Evangeline Avenue arrived at the hospital for treatment. Later that day, a second man died at the hospital from his injuries.

One of the homicide victims was identified Monday morning as Aaron Anderson, 26, by Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

A third man is in stable condition while the woman is in stable but serious condition, Bradley said Saturday.

No arrests have been made related to the ongoing investigation.

Around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting victim in the California neighborhood. Once they arrived at the 1700 block of Hale Avenue, they found a man shot multiple times sitting inside a vehicle. He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Bradley reported Saturday there were no known suspects at the time and police are investigating.

Less than an hour later, at 5:30 p.m., Lyndon Police Department officers and St. Matthews Fire and EMS responded to the 8300 Block of Vermissa Court after the report of a shooting. A 31-year-old man was discovered in the 8300 block of Doncaster Way shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. The Lyndon Police requested help from LMPD, who will be handling the investigation.

At 6:15 p.m., LMPD officers responded to the area of Allmond and Louisville Avenues after a report of a possibly dead person along the railroad tracks. Once police arrived, they found a body with multiple gunshot wounds. No suspects have been identified.

At 11:45 p.m., LMPD officers responded to the 7500 block of Dunwoody Court, where a man with a gunshot wound was pronounced dead on the scene. According to Bradley, early Sunday morning, the investigation into the Okolona shooting remains active with no suspects.
