Question
What is the best version of minecraft to create a modpack in currently? I'm not looking for anything specific, mosty what has the most mods with the most compatibility? The only specific thing that I can think of is i don't want it to the be too old, i mean that by like probably around and above 1.16, cause under that there would be way too many features missing that i like in the vanilla version of the game.

I'd say 1.20 is good now. Most mods are on there and if you're coming from vanilla its as familiar as it gets
Forge 1.20.1 is actually very good. Lots of high-quality new mods, and most older mods have been updated for it by now. You can also use Sinytra Connector to run some* Fabric mods as well. Overall, it's probably one of the best versions we've gotten in years.
as others mentioned, 1.20.1 is the best version ABOVE 1.16
BUUUUT, i still prefer 1.16.5, as many mods STILL ARENT PORTED TO 1.20.1 😭
edit: 1.18.2 is also a very good version, but worse than 1.20.1 and 1.16.5

Most people here say that it's 1.20.1 but I've had several problems with this version so I prefer to use 1.19.2, yeah...
1.18.2 is pretty solid
1.12.2 is still great, as it Has some mods that still habent been ported.
1.7.10 , 1.8.9 , 1.12.2 , 1.16.5 , 1.18.2 , 1.20.1 are the best versions IMO. 1.7.10 and 1.8.9 being oldschool mods/modpacks 1.12.2 had great modpacks like stoneblock 1,2, skyfactories etc. 1.16.5 had better nether giving it more features and some mods using netherite as another "upgrade tier" 1.18.2 gave us depth/height or better exploration itself 1.20.1 being 1 of current versions and making the game bit harder (like ATM generating allthemodium in deepdark)
It rly depends what u want to play/theres mod u like in that version.
I'd say decide on the details of your modpack first and see if you'd like to use any mods that are version-restricted in some way. Come back when you have a clear idea on what you want to create.
