2024 – It’s (soon) time for 12 days of cinema on the Croisette. And for this 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 14 to 25, moviegoers are served with the 80 films presented, between official selection and additional competitions. An adaptation of a novel from French literature, a five-star cast gathered around Francis Ford Coppola and the return of an animated film in the official selection 16 years, here (in part) is what we can expect festival-goers.

A mix between science fiction and Roman epic, the plot pits two men with divergent ambitions against each other. One wants to maintain his hold on the city he governs while the other wants to build a utopia. The names of Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito and Dustin Hoffman are listed in the end credits.

First film announced out of competition in this selection, Furiosa: a Mad Max saga is the prequel to Mad Max: Road released in 2015. Charlize Theron, who played the character of Furiosa nine years earlier, gives way to Anya Taylor-Joy who plays Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.

In this fifth film from the universe of Mad Max by George Miller, we discover the origins of Furiosa. Torn from her family when she was just a child, she will do everything to return home. Furiosa: a Mad Max saga is screened in cinemas from May 22.

After Poor Creatures screened at the beginning of the year, Yórgos Lánthimos reunites with Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe for Kinds of Kindness. This film tells three parallel stories: a man wants to take control of his own life, another is worried because his wife who disappeared at sea has not been the same since her return, and a woman is looking for someone who must become a prodigious spiritual leader.
