Jane Helen Petrie OBITUARY

PETRIE, JANE HELEN, of Orlando, passed over peacefully on June 9, 2005. Jane was born August 1, 1928 and raised in Buffalo, NY. She was married to Donald F. Petrie for 48 years until his death in June of 2002. She studied music at the College of Fine Arts, Syracuse University, and completed her B.F.A. at the School of Drama and Speech, University of Buffalo. Throughout her life, Jane enjoyed all forms of the performing arts. She was a talented writer, actress, director, pianist and vocalist. During retirement, she performed for small groups locally. She felt her true vocation, however, was to serve as wife and mother. The Petrie family relocated to Daytona Beach in the early 60’s as Don worked on the Apollo Space program with General Electric. Jane and Don raised their children in Daytona Beach, with all three children attending St. Paul’s School and Father Lopez High School. Jane and Don were very grateful for a retirement to New Smyrna Beach and warm relationships with friends and neighbors in the community. In additional, they made several trips to the mountains of North Carolina during retirement. Central in Jane’s life was her Christian faith. Jane led an examined and spiritual life, guided by her unwavering faith. While thoughtful, she also had a terrific sense of humor and could poke fun at herself, even as her body failed. Her imprint will be treasured. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach and Holy Family Catholic Churches. Survivors are her sons, Steven of Chappaqua, NY and, Christopher of Orlando; daughter, Lynn of San Anselmo, CA; and six wonderful grandchildren. Mass celebrating the resurrection of her soul and interment will take place in Buffalo, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sacred Heart Academy, 3860 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14226. In addition, Jane will be remembered in the prayers of the faithful at the communal liturgy at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Winter Park on Saturday June 18th at 8AM and also at Holy Family Catholic School Mass on Friday, August 12th at 9:30AM. Collison Family Funeral Home Howell Branch is in charge of arrangements.
