Following an investigation that lasted several months, Michigan State Police and the Branch County Prosecutor announced Thursday that the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office's fatal shooting of a double homicide suspect in August of 2023 was justified.

The suspect, 30-year-old David Algarin Jr., lead authorities on a chase Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, which ended with him being killed in a shooting with deputies, News Channel 3 previously reported.

Following the determination, St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office officials said the following:

“I am proud of the hard work and dedication of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputies involved in this incident,” said Undersheriff Jason Bingaman.

“They relied on their training and experience to stop the threat and ensure safety of the community," he added.
