Spring 2024 GPA

All Mocs Programs Post 3.0 Team GPA

OVC Beach Volleyball Player of the Year Neva Clark and football standout Reuben Lowery were among 47 UTC student-athletes to score a 4.0 GPA in the spring.

UTC scored a 3.318 overall student-athlete GPA for the Spring 2024 semester, the highest mark in a non-COVID term.

Academic success is not a new concept for student-athletes at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Mocs are just as recognized for their achievements in the classroom as they are known for their accomplishments in competition.  They have set a very high academic standard for themselves, so when they break a record it is a very big deal.

With the confirmation of grades this week, UTC student-athletes did something in the recently completed spring semester that had never been accomplished.  For the first time on record (without COVID adjustments), each of the Mocs 16 programs scored a 3.0 or higher team GPA.

“This is a great way to cap an amazing year for UTC Athletics,” stated Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Mark Wharton. “We are competing for championships across the board and the accolades of our student-athletes in the classroom continue to amaze me. I am so proud of their work and am glad they are getting the recognition they deserve.”

Overall, the Mocs scored a 3.318 student-athlete GPA.  That is the second-highest mark on record and the highest in a semester that did not include any COVID adjustments.

UTC also set a new record with 78% of all student-athletes earning a spot on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0+ GPA).

“Our coaches do an outstanding job of creating and promoting a culture of academic success and we get outstanding support from our campus community,” added Wharton. “However, it is the leadership, organization and professional approach from our Student-Athlete Academic Enhancement Center led by Dr. Emily Blackman and her staff that allows us to continue to hit such high marks.

A total of 47 Mocs scored a 4.0 GPA in the fall.  Some notables on that list include OVC Beach Volleyball Player of the Year Neva Clark (Exercise & Health Science), Football All-American Reid Williams (Engineering Technology Management) and SoCon Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year Jakub Jupa (SORT Management).

Women’s cross country led all teams with a 3.735 GPA, while soccer set a program record with a 3.709.
