Based on the true events that transpired in the life of late legendary Punjabi musician Amar Singh Chamkila, the Imtiaz Ali directorial has been receiving love from all quarters. While many Bollywood celebrities who caught up on the film last month couldn’t stop raving about it, South star Karthi too has joined the list of admirers. After catching up on the film recently, the Ponniyin Selvan actor decided to share his heartfelt review on social media.

Taking to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Karthi had only words of appreciation for not just the film but also for the cast and the entire team who came together to create this biopic, including filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and music maestro A. R. Rahman, who reunited with lyricist Irshad Kamil after Tamasha in 2015. Sharing his review, Karthi wrote, “Watched #AmarSinghChamkila…. a beautiful film that portrays an artist from his true sense.” He went on to add, “Mesmerizing performances by @diljitdosanjh and @ParineetiChopra. Brilliant writing and narration by #ImtiazAli. @arrahman sir’s music transports us to the glory of that musical era. Kudos to the whole team for this moving experience.”

Amar Singh Chamkila traces the journey of the namesake Punjabi singer, his struggles, challenges, rise to stardom and later, the assassination along with paying tribute to the beautiful songs created by the legendary singer. The film features Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role along with Parineeti Chopra, who plays his singing partner and his wife Amarjot Singh. For the unversed, Amar and Amarjot lost their lives in a gun attack which was aimed at assassinating the singers. Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali, released on Netflix, on April 12, 2024.
