How to lengthen battery life on a Pixel Watch 2
I got a Pixel Watch 2 (wifi only) this week. At first, I added a couple of apps and watch faces to the watch, and started wearing it. I was only getting about 4 hours a charge, which was supremely annoying. Then I slept with it on for sleep monitoring. Luckily it ran out of battery which caused the need for a reboot. This seems to have fixed the battery issue a bit. So, in short, to lengthen your batter life, do the following:
-
Delete any unnecessary apps
-
Set Screen screen timeout to 10 seconds.
-
turn off adaptive brightness.
-
Turn off the always-on screen
-
Turn off wifi
-
Turn off tilt-to-wake and touch-to-wake
-
The most important step (esp. after adding/deleting apps): REBOOT.
(yes, I know this is turning off a lot of functions).
If you still have problems, Google says to do a factory reset. If THAT does not work, talk to google about a replacement.
I'll post a follow-up as I get more data on battery-life data.
Anyone else seeing this?
My PW2 with always on screen last about 20 hours. I think your watch is a defect unit.
I think you have a defective watch ,it should last more than that, mine lasts at least a day and the only thing I have is the always on turned off
I'll see how it goes today and then I'll start turning more things back on.
I had an update a few days ago (watch is only a couple weeks old) which seemed to give it more battery life
How many hours do you get on a charge now? If I may ask.
How to save battery: don't use it
Uninstall the 3rd party watch faces, use one of the included watch faces and if your battery life improves. My money is on a watch face, I've used ones that murdered my battery life before.
Something is borked, if I optimised everything possible and didn't run any fitness I reckon I could manage 48 hours.
Super helpful. I'll see what my times are.
I have everything running and mine easily lasts almost 2 days. Only thing off is LTE
Why would you buy the LTE version of the watch and then turn off LTE? **puzzled**
I have a 4 Wheel Drive truck and I turn off the 4 Wheel Drive. It's nice to have, but I don't need it all the time. See how that works?
I have the LTE too but I bought it used and got it cheaper than WIFI only and don't pay to use the LTE 🤷♂️
I'm getting nearly two days out of mine with AOD on. Yours is broken, or you've got a bugged watch face.
I've only done 2, 3, 4....my watch lasts 24-36 hours most days. I feel like I remember the battery learns as it goes and after the first week or so is when my battery life finally seemed to settle into what it is now and has remained there.

Oh, I only have certain notifications that come through, mainly texts and FB messenger. I don't have email notifications on...or else my watch would NEVER stop dinging/vibrating!
The first week, mine got pretty abysmal battery life until I updated the system software and all the apps. Now it's dramatically better.
If you use it to track an outdoor walk or run reboot it after. There's a bug where it never turns off the GPS and just murders battery life
For Realz? That sucks. Would seem to be an obvious firmware fix.
Leave it turned off
Turn off the watch and it will last a week!
No need to turn all this off. Mine lasts 24 hours with it on which is all I Need tit to last for. It charges while I shower and dress in the morning.
I do agree about watch faces. There are some terribly written watch faces that should be avoided
By this you mean turn off the display right?
No, I was being sarcastic.
My PW2 has only been lasting about 16 ish hours with the only thing turned off is tilt to wake. If I wear it at night for sleep tracking then it only lasts 10 ish hours because it'll lose about 10% every hour, including while I'm asleep. Gonna try a hard reset and starting from scratch to see if that improves things, otherwise I'll be contacting Google about a replacement.
I only lose 12 - 14% all night while tracking sleep using Bedtime Mode with my PW.
I've yet to really use Bedtime mode. I've just been using DND because it syncs up with my P8P when I put it on my Pixel Stand for the night. I'll give that a try tonight to see if that improves anything!
